We welcome new graduates to join our team as an Advanced Diagnostic Sonographer.

Job Summary

In collaboration with staff radiologists, this role independently performs advanced diagnostic ultrasound procedures in accordance with safety procedures and protocols. Serves as a clinical mentor for junior staff and students.

Responsibilities
  • Verify physician order and procedure to ensure accuracy.
  • Use radiology information systems to facilitate care.
  • Explain procedure to patient to ensure understanding.
  • Independently operate equipment to complete imaging procedure according to protocol (including assisting radiologists in guided procedures in a variety of settings).
  • Review patient images prior to transmission to ensure images meet diagnostic quality standards.
  • Complete timely quality control procedures in accordance with regulatory standards and perform notification/remediation as warranted.
  • Assist in the facilitation of departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance, etc.).
  • Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications

Education

Required: Completion of a CAHEA approved formal training program in diagnostic medical sonography.

Work Experience

Required: None. Preferred: 2 years of sonographer experience.

Certifications

  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or registry eligible (required within 1 year of hire).
  • Advanced certification in area(s) of specialty according to facility need.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
  • Knowledge of the anatomy of the liver, gallbladder, aorta, spleen, kidneys, bile ducts, and pancreas and ability to perform abdominal ultrasound and the pathology of these organs.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (e.g., 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability).
Physical and Environmental Demands

Medium work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently. Duties involve exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue and possible communicable diseases and hazardous medications.
