Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Sonographer IHR to perform vascular imaging and ensure high-quality imaging while educating patients about procedures. The role supports safety standards, enters results, and collaborates with the team to maintain equipment and image quality.

Qualified candidates graduate from an accredited ultrasound program, hold BLS, and obtain RDMS within 3 months of graduation; vascular imaging experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Must have completed an accredited ultrasound program.
  • Current BLS certification for healthcare providers.
  • RDMS credential within 3 months of graduation or college completion certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Perform vascular sonography in accordance with standards and organizational policies.
  • Review patient history and physician orders; educate patients about procedures.
  • Prepare and administer contrast media or medications within scope.
  • Monitor patient condition and report changes promptly.
  • Prepare equipment, select exposure factors, and ensure safety.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and maintain image quality.
  • Position patient and perform imaging procedures; analyze results and report findings.
  • Enter and transmit scan results; perform additional duties as assigned.

Job Description

TheSonographer IHRreflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

  • Performs vascular sonography in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews patient history and physician's orders.
  • Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation.
  • When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice.
  • Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate.
  • Prepares equipment and supplies.
  • Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters.
  • Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment.
  • Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary.
  • Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s).
  • Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results.
  • Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure.
  • Enters, transmits and reports scan results.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Education:

Graduate of an accredited Ultrasound Sonography program

Certification:

BLS for healthcare providers

Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer with one credential (RDMS) within 3 months of graduation, new graduates need Certificate of Completion from the college

Preferred:

  • One year experience in vascular imaging
