Job summary

Boston Children's Hospital seeks a pediatric ultrasound technologist to perform routine ultrasound examinations as prescribed by a physician. This role includes reviewing requisitions, selecting appropriate equipment, and ensuring imaging quality for pediatric patients.

You will teach residents and students, participate in a high-reliability communication culture, and support a positive environment for patients and families while maintaining daily ultrasound operations.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
• Eligible for ARDMS certification with completion within one year of hire.
• BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine ultrasound examinations as prescribed by a physician.
• Reviews requisitions and abstracts data to determine appropriateness of procedures.
• Selects equipment and factors to identify pathologic and normal anatomy.
• Assesses patients and families and plans for their needs during imaging.
• Follows QC/Data Integrity workflow and high-reliability communication practices.
• Provides instruction on pediatric ultrasound to residents, fellows, and students.

Position Summary

Performs routine ultrasound examinations as prescribed by a physician.

Key Responsibilities

• Performs routine ultrasound examinations as prescribed by a physician.
• Reviews and evaluates requisitions for ultrasound imaging procedures, abstracting data from patient charts and determining appropriateness of procedure prescribed given diagnosis and clinical signs for routine examinations.
• Selects appropriate equipment and technical factors to identify pathologic and normal anatomy.
• Assesses patients' and parents' physical and emotional status and ability to respond to instructions and develops plan for adjusting to patients' specific needs.
• Follows QC/Data Integrity Workflow process.
• Practices High Reliability Communication techniques.
• Responds to the uniqueness and clinical condition of the patient.
• Creates a supportive environment for the patient and the family.
• Promotes a positive work environment in compliance with ETU.
• Identifies and reports equipment malfunctions.
• Assists senior technologists in organizing and maintaining daily operations of section.
• Provides instruction on pediatric ultrasound procedures and techniques to residents, fellows, and students as requested.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Associates degree, Diagnostic Medical Sonography

Licensure/ Certifications:

• Eligible for certification by the ARDMS.
• Must meet, successfully complete, and maintain the ARDMS certification and registration within one year of hire date.
