Like our products, we work better together. We connect with candor and care, seeking out diverse perspectives from our customers, communities and each other.

Life at Axon is fast‑paced, challenging and meaningful. Here, you’ll take ownership and drive real change. Constantly grow as you work hard for a mission that matters at a company where you matter.

Your Impact

This is a pivotal client‑facing role offering significant opportunities for leadership and professional development in a rapidly growing business environment. You will collaborate closely with clients and internal project teams to architect and deliver robust data conversion and ingestion solutions that provide substantial value to our public safety partners. This position involves implementing and refining end‑to‑end data conversion processes — from initial data ingestion through transformation, loading, and delivery validation — to guarantee quality, enhance productivity, and ensure client satisfaction. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the Data Solutions Engineer II, Data Conversion is responsible for achieving superior customer satisfaction through the timely and effective delivery of technical services, including data ingestion and extraction from legacy systems, schema mapping and transformation, technical project scoping, comprehensive system analysis, and ensuring the completeness and accuracy of all data deliveries.

What You’ll Do

Location: Remote. Up to 30% travel required.

Must be within commutable distance to one of our Hub locations listed below: (Scottsdale AZ, Seattle WA, Boston MA, Atlanta GA)

Reports to: Data Solutions Engineering Manager

We rely on in‑person collaboration and ask that team members work onsite Tuesdays through Fridays, with the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays, unless there is an approved workplace accommodation. We believe that connection fuels innovation, and our in‑office culture is designed to foster meaningful teamwork, mentorship, and shared success.

  • Develop data mappings, transformation logic, and conversion scripts to extract, transform, and prepare data from agency legacy systems for ingestion into Axon’s platform — encompassing conversion strategy, validation criteria, and cutover sequencing.
  • Execute and monitor data ingestions end‑to‑end, independently resolving errors and ensuring the completeness and accuracy of all data deliveries through rigorous quality assurance.
  • Perform hands‑on database analysis, schema mapping, and data profiling to understand source system structures and define transformation logic — traveling to client sites to lead data discovery sessions and assess legacy system environments.
  • Restore database copies and manage data environments to support conversion activities.
  • Serve as a client‑facing technical expert within the Productivity Professional Services team, representing Axon’s data conversion capabilities throughout all stages of engagement.
  • Identify and assess data conversion requirements and opportunities when migrating from agency legacy systems (cloud and/or on‑premise) to Axon’s product suite.
  • Collaborate with product management, sales, software engineering teams, and agency technical stakeholders to understand agency goals, data landscapes, and desired outcomes.
  • Leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and techniques to optimize data conversion processes, improve accuracy, and enhance overall project efficiency.
  • Continuously improve conversion quality and efficiency by generating reusable artifacts — templates, scripts, and configurations — and surfacing opportunities to enhance Axon’s conversion platform and tooling.
  • Partner with internal teams and agencies to make public safety data accessible and actionable.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical or quantitative field, OR graduate of coding boot camp OR 5+ years of technical experience in a related field
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, Bash, GraphQL, and Azure Cloud tools
  • Hands‑on experience with database systems (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL), API structures (REST), and data formats (JSON, XML, YAML)
  • Data‑mapping project experience for ETL (Extract, Transform, Load)
  • Experience developing and maintaining customer production systems
  • Familiarity using API REST clients to perform tests (Postman, Insomnia, etc.)
  • Backend engineering experience (Java, Scala, C++, or similar) is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated ability to work with all levels of technical proficiency

  • Experience delivering software in a regulated environment (GovTech, HIPAA, FinTech, ISO, etc)
  • Past experience with Records Management Systems (RMS), Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), or public safety software is a plus
  • Must pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) background check and maintain confidential and highly sensitive information
