Job description

Overview

LMI is seeking an experienced Solutions Architect to join our Growth Operations organization and serve as the technical backbone of our client-facing business development efforts. This role sits on the BD/capture side: you'll architect the technical solutions behind our pursuits. That said, credible architecture comes from recent, hands-on experience developing and implementing solutions on a delivery project. That background is what lets a solution hold up under evaluator scrutiny and translate cleanly into delivery.

This is a high-visibility position for someone who enjoys translating agency mission needs and RFP/RFI requirements into differentiated technical solutions, and who wants to apply real engineering judgment earned through hands-on delivery to the sales cycle. You will influence what we pursue, how we compete, and how we bring new capabilities to government customers.

LMI is a new breed of digital solutions provider dedicated to accelerating government impact with innovation and speed. Investing in technology and prototypes ahead of need, LMI brings commercial-grade platforms and mission-ready AI to federal agencies at commercial speed.

Leveraging our mission-ready technology and solutions, proven expertise in federal deployment, and strategic relationships, we enhance outcomes for the government, efficiently and effectively. With a focus on agility and collaboration, LMI serves the defense, space, healthcare, and energy sectors—helping agencies navigate complexity and outpace change. Headquartered in Tysons, Virginia, LMI is committed to delivering impactful results that strengthen missions and drive lasting value.

Responsibilities
  • Design end-to-end technical solutions (cloud, data, application modernization, cybersecurity, AI/ML, DevSecOps , etc.) that respond directly to agency requirements and evaluation criteria.
  • Identify emerging customer needs, technology trends, and contract vehicles (GSA MAS, SEWP, CIO-SP3/4, GWACs, etc.) to proactively shape new solution offerings before opportunities are released.
  • Build trusted relationships with government technical leaders, industry partners, and internal subject matter experts.
  • Develop and maintain reusable solution artifacts, including reference architectures, concept diagrams, prototypes, and past-performance technical narratives, using rapid prototyping and emerging technologies to differentiate LMI in competitive pursuits.
  • Lead technical volume development for proposals and partner with Capture Managers, Business Development, and market CTOs to shape win themes, technical approach, and solution architecture for new pursuits and re-competes.
  • Serve as the subject-matter and architecture resource in client meetings, industry days, oral presentations, and demos, translating complex technical concepts into clear, client-ready language for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Partner with the market leadership and the CTO team to ensure proposed solutions are realistic, deliverable, and compliant with relevant government frameworks (FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, CMMC, Section 508, etc.), drawing on your own delivery background to stress-test feasibility.
  • Support price-to-win and technical risk assessments in coordination with pricing and contracts teams.
  • Use AI-enabled tools to accelerate research, analysis, concept development, drafting, and solution visualization, applying sound judgment on accuracy, security, privacy, and human oversight.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience designing, building, and delivering technical solutions as a practicing architect or engineer, most recently within a government contracting or systems integrator environment, across one or more of: cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP GovCloud), enterprise data platforms, application modernization, cybersecurity, or AI/automation. That background is what allows a candidate to credibly architect solutions that survive evaluator scrutiny and transition cleanly into delivery.
  • Proven ability to translate requirements from RFPs/RFIs/Sources Sought into compelling, compliant, and deliverable technical solutions.
  • Experience supporting government contracting, capture, or proposal efforts is preferred but not disqualifying; a strong technical architect can be brought up to speed on the BD/capture side.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience creating architecture diagrams and presenting to client and executive audiences.
  • Working knowledge of federal compliance and security frameworks (FedRAMP, NIST 800-53/800-171, RMF, CMMC, Section 508).
  • Experience using AI tools to support research, analysis, solution development, or drafting, with an understanding of their limitations and appropriate controls.
  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, deadline-driven proposal environment with shifting priorities.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active security clearance (Public Trust, Secret, or Top Secret).
  • Relevant certifications such as AWS/Azure/GCP Solutions Architect, TOGAF, CISSP, or PMP.
  • Prior experience in a pre-sales, capture support, or proposal writing role at a government contracting or federal systems integration firm.
  • Experience with GovCon financial and pricing considerations (e.g., basis of estimate development, labor category mapping).
Why Join Us
  • Direct influence on which opportunities we pursue and how we win them, grounded in technical solutions you actually build and hands-on engineering judgment.
  • Exposure across the full business development lifecycle, from capture strategy through proposal submission and transition to delivery.
  • Collaborative, mission-driven, and innovative culture supporting meaningful government programs.
  • Competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and professional development/certification support.
