Solution Architect

Position Summary

The Solution Architect is responsible for designing and guiding technology solutions that support product, program, and value-stream objectives. This role serves as a key technical leader within delivery teams, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, maintainable, and aligned with both business goals and enterprise technology standards.

Working in close partnership with Product Owners, Engineering Leads, and cross-functional delivery teams, the Solution Architect translates business requirements into practical architectural designs and implementation approaches. The position combines strategic thinking with hands-on technical leadership, enabling teams to deliver high-quality solutions while managing complexity, risk, and long-term sustainability.

Operating within a distributed architecture framework, this role collaborates with Enterprise Architecture, platform teams, and other architecture leaders to ensure solution decisions leverage shared capabilities, adhere to governance requirements, and support broader technology objectives.

Key Responsibilities
Solution Design & Delivery Leadership
  • Lead architecture and solution design activities for products, applications, and value-stream initiatives.
  • Define end-to-end solution designs encompassing application, integration, data, infrastructure, and security components.
  • Make architecture decisions that support delivery objectives while maintaining technical quality and scalability.
  • Translate business requirements into actionable technical designs and implementation plans.
  • Ensure solutions are built to meet both immediate delivery goals and future growth needs.
Product & Team Collaboration
  • Partner with Product Managers, Product Owners, Technical Leads, and engineering teams to align architecture decisions with business priorities.
  • Support roadmap planning by evaluating technical dependencies, risks, and implementation considerations.
  • Provide guidance on feature scope, architectural trade-offs, and technology choices.
  • Collaborate with development teams throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure successful execution.
  • Facilitate technical discussions that balance customer value, technical feasibility, and operational excellence.
Enterprise Alignment & Architecture Governance
  • Apply enterprise architecture standards, approved technology patterns, and security requirements within solution designs.
  • Work closely with architecture leadership to align product-level decisions with broader organizational direction.
  • Leverage shared platforms, services, and reusable capabilities whenever appropriate.
  • Participate in architecture reviews and design discussions to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Escalate significant architecture risks, non-standard approaches, or cross-domain challenges when necessary.
Technical Guidance & Problem Solving
  • Provide hands-on architecture support to engineering teams during design, development, and implementation efforts.
  • Assist in resolving complex technical challenges that impact delivery timelines or solution quality.
  • Review proposed designs and implementations to ensure alignment with architectural expectations.
  • Promote effective engineering practices, maintainable system design, and high-quality technical solutions.
  • Support teams in making informed decisions regarding performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
Continuous Improvement & Technical Excellence
  • Identify opportunities to simplify architectures, streamline delivery processes, and reduce technical complexity.
  • Advocate for improvements that enhance system performance, resiliency, and operational effectiveness.
  • Help manage and reduce technical debt through thoughtful architectural planning.
  • Encourage adoption of modern design principles, engineering practices, and emerging technologies where appropriate.
  • Contribute to architecture knowledge sharing and best-practice development across teams.
Operational Support
  • Provide architecture guidance during production incidents and major operational events.
  • Assist with root-cause analysis and remediation planning for significant system issues.
  • Ensure architectural considerations support business continuity, resilience, and service reliability requirements.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and supporting complex technology solutions within enterprise environments.
  • Strong understanding of modern application architecture, cloud technologies, APIs, integration approaches, and data-driven systems.
  • Experience working within Agile, Scrum, or product-oriented delivery models.
  • Ability to evaluate technical trade-offs involving cost, speed, quality, risk, and long-term maintainability.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience producing architecture artifacts, technical designs, and solution documentation.
Preferred
  • Experience working in large, complex organizations with distributed technology teams.
  • Familiarity with enterprise architecture practices and governance frameworks.
  • Experience supporting cloud modernization and digital transformation initiatives.
