Position Overview
eking a highly experienced, hands-on Software Solutions Architect to help define and advance the architecture supporting DonorPro and future enterprise product initiatives. This is a strategic technical leadership role for an architect who can balance long-term architectural direction with practical, hands-on execution.
The successful candidate will establish architectural runway, create technical documentation, build proof-of-concepts, validate complex design decisions, and guide scalable product development. This is not a presentation-only architecture position. The architect must be comfortable working directly with technology, creating test harnesses, evaluating design alternatives, and demonstrating technical feasibility.
The role requires a confident, autonomous, and pragmatic architect who can communicate effectively with executives, engineering leaders, developers, product teams, and other stakeholders. The ideal candidate will accelerate delivery, remove architectural bottlenecks, and provide clear technical direction without becoming an unnecessary approval layer.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and evolve the software architecture for DonorPro and future ARC-One products.
- Establish architectural runway aligned with current product priorities and long-term business objectives.
- Design scalable, resilient, secure, and maintainable distributed systems.
- Lead architectural decisions involving event-driven systems, event sourcing, distributed transactions, state management, system synchronization, and data reconciliation.
- Design solutions using Java 21, Spring Boot, Apache Kafka, PostgreSQL, AWS, and related cloud-native technologies.
- Develop and validate architectural patterns for high-volume, distributed, and occasionally connected application environments.
- Build hands-on proof-of-concepts, technical prototypes, and test harnesses to evaluate architectural approaches and demonstrate feasibility.
- Document solution architectures, technical standards, integration patterns, system dependencies, and important design decisions.
- Evaluate technical tradeoffs and make recommendations based on scalability, reliability, security, maintainability, cost, delivery speed, and business impact.
- Partner closely with engineering leadership, product management, application development, security, DevOps, QA, and architecture teams.
- Provide technical guidance to development teams without becoming an additional approval bottleneck.
- Identify architectural risks, technical debt, system constraints, and delivery bottlenecks, then recommend practical solutions.
- Support system integration across ARC-One, DonorPro, BioPro, OneBlood, and external platforms.
- Develop architectural approaches for data consistency, distributed transaction management, failure recovery, and eventual consistency.
- Guide the implementation of Saga patterns, event sourcing, asynchronous messaging, and reconciliation processes.
- Support application state management and offline-first synchronization using technologies such as Ditto and Legend State.
- Provide architectural guidance for React Native and Expo-based mobile applications.
- Support identity, access management, and authentication architecture using FusionAuth.
- Guide integrations with external communication platforms, including Twilio for text and email capabilities.
- Support CI/CD strategy, automated testing, release management, and deployment practices using GitLab and related tools.
- Contribute to mobile application distribution and testing processes involving Expo and TestFlight.
- Support the adoption of end-to-end testing capabilities and automated quality practices using platforms such as Testim.
- Participate in SAFe delivery activities, including Agile Release Trains and Program Increment Planning.
- Communicate architectural strategies, decisions, risks, and business outcomes clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences.
- Support product field trials and use findings from real-world environments to improve scalability, reliability, and system design.
- Provide architectural leadership beyond the current DonorPro product lifecycle and contribute to future ARC-One product development.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive experience as a Software Solutions Architect, Application Architect, Software Architect, Enterprise Application Architect, or similar technical architecture professional.
- Strong experience architecting large-scale enterprise applications and distributed systems.
- Deep understanding of event-driven architecture and asynchronous messaging patterns.
- Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka, including event publishing, event consumption, integration patterns, and failure handling.
- Strong understanding of event sourcing and its application in distributed enterprise systems.
- Experience designing distributed transaction workflows using patterns such as Saga orchestration or choreography.
- Strong knowledge of state management, data reconciliation, system synchronization, and eventual consistency.
- Experience architecting cloud-native solutions on Amazon Web Services.
- Strong knowledge of the Java ecosystem, including Java 21 and Spring Boot.
- Experience designing systems backed by PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
- Ability to create proof-of-concepts, prototypes, and test harnesses independently.
- Experience defining architectural standards, solution diagrams, decision records, integration patterns, and technical documentation.
- Strong understanding of API architecture, enterprise integration, security, scalability, reliability, and application performance.
- Experience supporting CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and modern software-delivery practices.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate technical alternatives and clearly explain architectural tradeoffs.
- Experience working with cross-functional product, engineering, security, DevOps, QA, and business teams.
- Strong executive-level presentation, facilitation, and written communication skills.
- Ability to operate independently, make informed decisions, and move complex initiatives forward with limited oversight.
- Experience working in Agile environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with React Native and Expo-based mobile application architecture.
- Experience designing offline-first or occasionally connected applications.
- Familiarity with Ditto for offline data synchronization.
- Familiarity with Legend State or comparable application state-management technologies.
- Experience with FusionAuth or comparable identity and access-management platforms.
- Experience integrating Twilio or similar external text and email communication services.
- Experience with GitLab, Testim, TestFlight, and CI/CD pipeline architecture.
- Knowledge of Java 25 capabilities or experience evaluating future Java platform upgrades.
- Experience operating within the Scaled Agile Framework, including Agile Release Trains and PI Planning.
- Experience supporting regulated products, FDA-related traceability requirements, or other highly controlled environments.
- Experience architecting systems supporting field operations, high-volume transactions, or mission-critical workflows.
- Experience conducting technical evaluations during field trials or phased product rollouts.
Direct React Native expertise is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates with exceptional distributed-systems architecture experience and the ability to guide mobile-connected platforms will receive strong consideration.
