Job summary

Meta Designs is a custom metal fabrication shop in Salt Lake City seeking a full-time designer/drafter for an entry to mid-level role. The ideal candidate excels in Solidworks and CAD, with a background in construction, mechanical engineering, industrial design, architecture, and metal fabrication.

You will take field measurements, read architectural plans, and create precise 3D models and shop drawings. Strong attention to detail and communication with teams are essential.

Qualifications

• College degree in industrial design, mechanical engineering, or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years of Solidworks experience (part, assembly, and drawing).
• Minimum 2 years of experience related to construction or fabrication.
• Strong geometry and math skills.
• Experience reading architectural plans and field dimensioning.
• Proficiency with CAD/3D modeling is required.

Responsibilities

• Take field dimensions at active construction sites.
• Communicate with contractors and architects clearly.
• Create legible hand sketches and plans depicting spaces.
• Read drawings and design visions to meet fabrication constraints.
• Create Solidworks parts, assemblies, and drawings.
• Manage 500+ part assemblies with parametric modeling.
• Produce shop drawings to communicate design intent and buildability.
• Coordinate with fabricators on installation and assembly details.
• Report progress to Design Manager and Project Manager daily.
