Job summary

The City of Loxley, AL is seeking a skilled equipment operator to support the sanitation division. Responsibilities include operating automated refuse collection vehicles, inspecting and maintaining trucks, and delivering containers to customers.

A Class B CDL is required at offer, with preference for experience in refuse operations. This on-site role involves residential and commercial routes, safety checks, and coordination with dispatch.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Two years of experience operating heavy-duty vehicles, preferably refuse collection vehicles.
• Possession of a Class "B" Commercial Driver's license upon offer of employment.

Responsibilities

• Operates automated or semi-automated hoisting devices that raise refuse bins and dump contents into openings in truck bodies.
• Inspects trucks prior to beginning routes to ensure safe operating condition.
• Drives trucks, following established routes, through residential streets or alleys or through business or industrial areas.
• Operates equipment that compresses collected refuse.
• Dumps refuse or recyclable materials at disposal sites.
• Refuels trucks or adds other fluids, such as oil or brake fluid.
• Maintains vehicles in good working condition.
• Completes defective equipment reports.
• Communicates with dispatchers concerning delays, unsafe sites, accidents, equipment breakdowns, or other maintenance problems.
• Reports vehicle or equipment malfunctions.
• Notifies others of emergencies, problems, or hazards.
• Tags garbage to inform customers of problems such as excess garbage or inclusion of items that are not permitted.
• Installs street signs or replaces existing signs upon request.
• Keeps track of asphalt repairs and fills potholes on an as-needed basis.
• Inventory supplies such as street signs, equipment, etc.
• Recycle paint, oil and other materials.
• Delivers garbage containers to new and existing customers.
