Job summary

ENGIE North America is seeking a Solar Technician I to support the Emerald Green Solar Site in Greentown, IN. You will troubleshoot, repair, and maintain PV inverters, panels, and tracking systems, using SCADA, Maximo, and SAP to manage work orders and reporting.

You will join an on-call rotation, travel domestically as needed, and ensure safety procedures are followed. Residency within 50 miles of the site is required.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or certification in a technical program with AC/DC electrical theory
  • Knowledge of AC/DC voltage and electrical theory and reading one-line and three-line schematics
  • Willingness to work on-call and extended hours in outdoor conditions
  • Obtain required substation training/certifications within 12 months of hire date
  • Must reside within 50 miles of Emerald Green Solar Site and have valid US driver’s license

What You Can Expect

As a Solar Technician I, you will support the operation and maintenance of solar power facilities at the Emerald Green Solar Site located in Greentown, IN. You will assist in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining photovoltaic inverters, solar panel systems and related equipment. Your work will involve using digital tools such as SCADA, Maximo, and SAP to manage work orders, document activities, and ensure accurate reporting. You will also be a part of an on-call rotation for outages and emergencies; therefore, you must reside within 50 miles of the site. Any milage in access will need manager approval.

Your Daily Responsibilities Will Include, but Are Not Limited to:

  • Complete permits to work, job safety plans (JSPs), lock-out tag-out (LOTO) procedures, and performing last minute risk assessments
  • Under the supervision of senior level technicians, perform basic troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs on photovoltaic inverters, solar panels and tracking systems, and other related solar plant equipment
  • Operate standard hand tools and electrical testing equipment (e.g., screwdrivers, wrenches, battery powered drills/impacts, multimeters, amp clamps)
  • Understand and execute ENGIE’s official job specific documentation, such as LOTO procedures, work instructions, and routine maintenance checklists
  • Create and close-out work orders generated in the Maximo system
  • Conduct site safety orientations to original equipment manufacturers (OEM’s) representatives, independent service provider’s (ISP’s), vendors, and site visitors
  • Accompany approved site visitors to ensure all individuals adhere to Engie’s safety and quality standards
  • Perform LOTO and general supervision for non-ENGIE employees as needed
  • Maintain accurate parts and tooling inventory

What You’ll Bring

  • Minimum diploma or certification in a technical program where you have learned AC/DC electrical theory, understand reading blue prints and schematics, industrial electrical equipment. Military equivalent experience or two (2) years experience in Solar generation sites, Wind generation sites in lieu of a degree
  • General knowledge of AC/DC voltage, electrical theory, reading one-line and three-line schematics, and operation & maintenance of electrical equipment (e.g., AC/DC breakers, disconnects, MV transformers, NO/NC contactors, and relays)
  • Understanding of selecting the proper PPE for electrical work
  • Proficiency in reading and understanding switching orders
  • Obtain appropriate level of substation training and/or certifications within 12 months of hire date
  • Available for on-call duties as required
  • A willingness to work night shifts and extended hours, often outdoors in extreme heat or cold
  • Readiness to walk, stand, kneel, or crouch for extended periods
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.

Additional Details

  • This is a field position requiring daily attendance at a worksite
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record to drive company vehicle on and around the plant
  • Willing to travel domestically to support site operations at ENGIE’s various renewable modalities as needed (e.g. Solar, Wind, BESS)
  • Must be able to complete ENGIE’s Qualified Electrical Worker Competency Skills test, which requires you to adequately demonstrate the application of safety critical tasks when working with AC/DC electricity (e.g. hot-cold-hot testing, proper PPE use, application of cluster grounds) within 12 months of hire date
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
  • The position consists of 30% work indoors and 70% work outdoors; outdoor work may expose the employee to extreme weather conditions

Compensation

Hourly Range: $23.15 – $35.45 USD hourly

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan and emergency or on-call pay.
