Job summary

Carolina Solar Services seeks a Solar Technician I to support the service team in maintaining utility-scale solar facilities. You will assist senior technicians, learn CSS safety protocols, and help deliver reliable field service to clients.

Based in North Carolina, this role is field-oriented with ~90% in-field work, occasional on-call shifts, and exposure to weather. Strong communication and basic electrical knowledge are preferred to ensure quality service.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record to operate a company vehicle
  • First-Aid/CPR/AED (preferred)
  • NFPA 70E (preferred)
  • OSHA 10 (preferred)
  • Field experience in residential, commercial or utility-scale solar PV (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize safety daily and participate in site safety meetings
  • Assist with troubleshooting and repairing utility-scale solar generators
  • Assist with commissioning, QA inspection, or preventative maintenance work as needed
  • Provide timely Field Service Reports to Operations for client delivery
  • Ensure a premium level of customer service
  • Perform vegetative maintenance as needed
  • Participate in weekend and holiday on-call schedule
  • Occasional overtime work and overnight travel

Job description

Position Summary:

The Solar Technician I will be the junior field service technician for CSS’ operations and maintenance of solar facilities. The Solar Technician I is responsible for supporting senior field staff in the safe and timely completion of all service obligations, learning CSS company protocols, and representing CSS in the field.

Essential Functions:
  • Prioritize safety daily and actively participates in site safety meetings
  • Assist with troubleshooting and repairing utility scale solar generators
  • Assist with commissioning, quality assurance inspection, or preventative maintenance work as needed
  • Provide timely Field Service Reports back to Operations staff for delivery to client s
  • Ensure a premium level of customer service
  • Perform vegetative maintenance as
  • Participate in weekend and holiday on-call schedule
  • Occasional overtime work and overnight travel
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficiency reading technical specification documents, site plans, & electrical schematics
  • Familiarity with tools, terminologies, and processes associated with electrical and mechanical trade work
  • Basic understanding of the principles of electrical theory and photovoltaic power generation
  • General computer, network, and technology proficiency
  • Understanding & experience in the operation and concepts relating to electrical and mechanical trade work
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills

Minimum Qualifications:

Physical Demands:
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds frequently
  • Ability to work at high heights with the use of a safety harness

  • ~90% of time spent in-field at utility scale solar facilities
  • Exposure to weather, extreme heat or cold
  • Exposure to native plants and, occasionally, animals
  • Exposure to electrical hazards
