Job summary

AES Corporation is seeking a Solar Technician based in Chowchilla, CA, to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on utility-scale solar plants. You will work under field service leads to ensure operations meet industry standards and safety requirements.

The ideal candidate will be self-driven, capable of following directions, and comfortable working in a collaborative, diverse team environment with strong communication skills. Relocation may be required for local candidates.

Qualifications

  • Experience with electrical systems and familiarity with basic safety principles (LOTO, Electrical Safety).
  • Experience with SCADA and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) is highly recommended.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform/assist with corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance of solar PV sites and substations in California's Central Valley.
  • Work on inverters, trackers, combiner boxes, PV modules, DC/AC collection equipment as assigned.
  • Prepare switching and clearance orders and operate plant systems safely.
  • Contribute to Plant Orders, Plant Procedures, and Operating Instructions as needed.
  • Participate in training and adhere to Environmental and Safety requirements.

Job Description

The AES Operations team is looking for a Solar Technician with Preventative & Corrective maintenance experience. This individual would play a pivotal role in ensuring that AES CE operates the portfolio to standards that exceed industry best‑practice. The ideal candidate will be a self‑starter, and will be able to take direction from Field Service leads. As AES CE grows to become one of the top IPPs in the industry, this role will provide an unparalleled opportunity for professional growth.

Location

This role is based in Chowchilla, CA. Candidates must currently reside in the area or be willing to relocate before their start date.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for assigned O&M activities associated with the solar PV sites and substations associated with utility‑scale Solar Energy Plants located in California's Central Valley.
  • Performs/assists with corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance and operations for which they are qualified to safely and efficiently perform for equipment including but not limited to installed Inverters (SMA, Advanced Energy , Power Electronics, EATON, TMEIC, SunGrow, and Solectria), Trackers (NEXTracker & ATI), Combiner Boxes, PV Modules, DC Collection equipment and systems, and AC Collection and Distribution equipment and systems, Performs/assists with routine maintenance work (repair, instrumentation calibration, basic Inverter troubleshooting), up to their capabilities, as assigned by supervisor and work orders from the maintenance management system.
  • Prepares and implements switching and clearance orders.
  • Operates electrical and mechanical power plant systems.
  • Participates in training as needed.
  • Performs/assists with technical and administrative duties associated with operating and maintaining a power plant.
  • Assists with site vegetation management plans including running tractors, riding mowers, and other vegetation maintenance equipment.
  • Writes/assists with Plant Orders, Plant Procedures, Operating Instructions and other documents as assigned.
  • Ensures work is performed in accordance with Environmental and Safety requirements.
  • May perform work independently and/or in work crews, depending upon skills and experience.

  • Understands and promotes general workplace safety and the ability to follow safety standards as well as help the company improve upon the standards in place.
  • Experience with electrical systems and familiarity of basic safety principles to included LOTO and Electrical Safety.
  • Must have experience in operating personal computer with technical proficiency of standard business software.
  • Experience with SCADA and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems is highly recommended.
  • Ability to excel in a collaborative, cross‑functional and geographically diverse organization.
  • Maturity, integrity and excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing with superiors and colleagues.
