Job summary

Our World Energy is seeking a Roof Lead to join our Field Operations team in Albuquerque, NM. You will install and maintain residential PV systems on rooftops, read blueprints, and coordinate with a crew to ensure safe, code‑compliant installations.

You will drive a company vehicle, work on ladders, and apply weather sealing while adhering to safety standards. Prior roofing/solar experience and a valid driver's license are required.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Technical/trade school in solar or electrical systems preferred.
• 1–2 years of residential solar experience.
• OSHA preferred.
• Ability to safely handle power tools and materials used in solar installations.
• Good analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to read and interpret NEC codes, blueprints and PV plans.
• Valid driver’s license with clean MVR to operate company vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Install and assemble roof racking systems and solar panels on residential roofs.
• Drive a truck and trailer safely.
• Mount racking and electrical equipment and seal penetrations.
• Perform routine PV system maintenance on modules and related equipment.
• Complete job documentation after installation.
• Interact with customers and answer questions as needed.
• Read blueprints and plan documents; run conduit and wiring on roofs.
• Apply weather sealant and ensure safe, compliant work practices.
• Configure electrical wiring of solar system (AC/DC) and test functionality.
• Adhere to OSHA standards and promote safety on site.

"Roof Lead" Role Overview

As a Roof Lead, your responsibilities are to assemble, install, or maintain solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on roofs or other structures in compliance with site assessment and schematics. May include measuring, cutting, assembling, and bolting structural framing and solar modules. In this role, you will be a part of a crew that is responsible for installing solar systems on residential homes.

Job Responsibilities

• Work with a team to install the racking system and solar panels on residential roofs
• Ability to drive a truck and trailer safely
• Structurally mount racking and electrical equipment and effectively seal penetrations
• Perform routine photovoltaic (PV) system maintenance on modules, arrays, batteries, power conditioning equipment, safety systems, structural systems, weather sealing, or balance of systems equipment
• Ensure proper job documentation is completed once the job installation concludes
• Interact with customers, answer and direct questions as needed
• Read and review blueprints and plan documents
• Install racking systems and modules, run conduit and wiring on roofs
• Apply weather seal, such as pipe flashings and sealants, to roof penetrations and structural devices
• Configure electrical wiring of the solar system (AC and DC)
• Test operation or functionality of completed work
• Structurally mount racking and electrical equipment and effectively seal penetrations
• Demonstrate knowledge of OSHA standards related to photovoltaic installations and enforce safety practices and standards
• Assisting with other duties as assigned by Foreman and/or Regional Operations Manager

Required Qualifications

Education Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age. High school diploma or equivalent, or Technical/trade school training in solar or electrical systems is preferred.

Required Skills

• 1-2 years of residential solar experience
• OSHA Preferred
• Ability to safely handle power tools and materials such as ladders, inverters, solar panels, panel boards, batteries, and other similar electrical equipment, lumber, roofing materials, etc.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to perform all installation duties of the Installer and Lead Installer
• Electrical/PV Installation Knowledge: Working knowledge of current NEC codes. Ability to interpret single-line drawings and PV systems from roof to meter.
• Demonstrates knowledge of electrical principles as it pertains to solar interconnection/tie-in and code and how PV systems operate. Understands interconnection activities. Understands basic construction principles
• Safety: Adheres to company safety policies and procedures including the ability to identify and report safety hazards, and the ability to encourage others to work safely

• Must be able to successfully pass pre-employment screening requirements (This role requires a valid Driver’s License and a clean MVR to drive a company vehicle.)

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work within the safe range of equipment such as ladders, fall protection harnesses and other personal protective equipment
• Ability to withstand heights, be on roofs, and climb ladders (Daily)
• Ability to lift 50-75+ lbs. routinely (Daily)
• Ability to work in 0-100+ degree weather, as well as in wet and dry conditions
• Ability to move around for prolonged periods. standing, kneeling, bending, Squat and climbing ladders (Daily)
