Job summary

SG Inc, an electrical infrastructure company, is seeking a Solar Electrical Estimator to price complex solar, storage, and medium-voltage projects in a competitive EPC environment near Washington, DC.

You will evaluate drawings, SLDs, and geotechnical reports to prepare detailed takeoffs and budgets, using Accubid, B2W, or HCSS, and collaborate with developers, OEMs, and internal teams to win profitable bids.

Qualifications

• Solar & MV cost estimating, cost control, labor productivity modeling, and market trends to win bids.
• Strong knowledge of NEC (Articles 690, 691, 705), NESC, and interconnection requirements.
• Foundational solar electrical engineering principles including DC string design and MV interfaces.
• Analytical skills for cable pull lengths, voltage drop, trenching, and crane picks.
• Proficiency in electrical estimating software (Accubid, B2W, HCSS) and BIM takeoffs.
• Ability to train and mentor junior estimators; cross-functional collaboration.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
• Experience estimating utility-scale PV, energy storage, and MV distribution infrastructure.

Responsibilities

We are building a high-performance estimating team and looking for a Solar Electrical Estimator who is sharp, fast, and thorough. You will evaluate project drawings, single-line diagrams (SLDs), and geotechnical reports to prepare detailed takeoff packages across DC, AC, and Medium Voltage systems. Qualifications / Requirements

• Solar & MV Cost Estimating: Proficient in solar electrical estimating, cost control, labor productivity modeling, and market commodity trends (copper/aluminum, transformer lead times, steel logistics) to ensure winning bids and rock-solid project budgets. Proven record of winning profitable projects
• Codes & Utility Standards: Strong knowledge of utility-scale electrical practices, NEC (specifically Articles 690, 691, and 705), NESC, and regional interconnection requirements.
• Solar Systems Engineering: Solid foundation in solar electrical engineering principles—including DC string design, combiner/recombiner sizing, inverter skids, CAB suspension/underground collection, and MV collector substation interfaces.
• Quantification & Logistics: Excellent analytical and mathematical skills for precise calculations of cable pull lengths, voltage drop/loss analysis, trenching/backfill quantities, and heavy rigging/crane picks.
• Estimating Software: Proficiency in electrical estimating software (Accubid, B2W, HCSS, or similar) and civil/BIM takeoff tools.
• Able to utilize resources to quickly produce 10%-60% design budgets.
• Cross-Functional Communication: Effective communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills to engage with developers, equipment OEMs, subcontractor networks, and internal project managers. Able to train and mentor junior estimators
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
• Experience: Relevant experience estimating utility-scale PV, commercial solar, energy storage (BESS), medium-voltage electrical distribution infrastructure, communication networks and is up to date on emerging technologies.
