Job summary

PCL Solar Constructors USA Inc. in Katy, Texas, seeks a Solar Designer to lead concept through delivery of renewable energy projects. You will review concept designs, coordinate with substation engineers and external consultants, and help with tendering and detailed design.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in engineering, construction management, architecture, or a related field.
• 0-1 years of progressive experience as a drafter/designer preferred.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil3D.
• Ability to learn and apply basic construction principles, specifications, and procedures.
• Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with stakeholders including supervisors and subtrade partners.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite with a strong aptitude for adopting new technology.

Responsibilities

• Reviews overall concept design, detailed layout, and DC electrical design.
• Reviews overall substation concept design and coordinates with engineers to optimize design details.
• Assists with estimates and tendering in pre-contract stages and detailed design in execution phase.
• Reviews contracts and subcontracts, including risk and mitigation plans.
• Manages design development with external design consultants and commissioning program.
• Updates drawings and specifications and documents field records for quality.
• Assists with schedules and monitoring performance and maintains relationships with stakeholders.

Here's how a Solar Designer for PCL Solar Constructors USA Inc. within Solar USA contributes to our team:

• Reviews overall concept design, detailed layout, and DC electrical design.
• Reviews overall substation concept design and works with substation and PV engineers to co-ordinate the flow of information and optimize design details.
• Participates in estimates to secure new work including in renewable energy. Assist with performing concept designs for feasibility and tendering in pre-contract stages and detailed design in the execution phase.
• Reviews and understands the contract and subcontracts, including understanding risk and risk mitigation plans.
• Manage design development with external design consultants as well as the commissioning program.
• Assist with updating drawings and specifications
• Documents field records for quality, production, labor, and materials.
• Assists with inventory and tracking time sheets, costs, and quantities.
• Assists in monitoring the quality plan, including conducting quality inspections.
• Conducts basic safety inspections and training, identifies and corrects safety hazards, and leads by example in safety practices and procedures.
• Assists the project team with subtrade partner management, including managing requestsfor information, shop drawings, changes and billing and workforce planning.
• Assists with schedules and monitoring performance.
• Develops and maintains strong relationships with all stakeholders
