Job summary

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) position is located within a state, area, or field office. The incumbent helps the Conservation Districts within the unit to develop a comprehensive natural resources conservation program and serves in multiple districts, including opportunities in Derwood, MD or Cooksville, MD.

Qualifications

  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
  • Background investigation and/or fingerprint check required; reimbursements not provided.
  • 1-year probationary period required for employment evaluation.
  • Subject to one-year supervisory/managerial requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Soil Conservationist responsible for the overall management of agricultural resources and formulation/implementation of soil and water conservation plans.
  • Provide guidance to landowners to implement selected alternatives.
  • Develop comprehensive Conservation Plans for District Projects.
  • Advise farm managers, farmers, and others on land use planning and development.
  • Oversee farm bill program management in line with the Conservation Program Manual.
  • Supervise federal employees in the field office and liaise between state and district staff.

Summary

This position is located in the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), state, area, or field office within a designated state.

The incumbent assists the Conservation District(s) within the managerial unit in the development of a comprehensive natural resources conservation program.

Duties
  • Serve as a Soil Conservationist responsible for the overall management of agricultural resources, the formulation and implementation of soil and water conservation plans for all out grants.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to the landowner to implement their selected alternative(s).
  • Develop comprehensive Conservation Plans for District Projects.
  • Provide advice and assistance to farm managers, farmers, and other interested individuals and groups on planning and development of land use regulations.
  • Execute oversight, management and administration for farm bill programs in accordance with the Conservation Program Manual.
  • Responsible for supervision of federal employees located in a field office and liaison between the state and district employees.
