Job summary

Pentangle Tech Services | P5 Group in Illinois seeks a hands-on Software Test Engineer to build, maintain, and scale automated test frameworks for embedded software on our precision field computer platform.

You will develop robust automated test cases from system requirements, validate embedded-to-network communications, and ensure compliance with industry standards, collaborating with engineering to improve testing processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field (EE/CS/CE).
• 3+ years in software test automation for embedded systems.
• Strong Python experience (3+ years) for test development & framework automation.
• Experience with Selenium or Playwright.
• Familiarity with virtualization/emulation environments and CI/CD tools.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate test requirements based on specifications and internal/external needs.
• Design, create and run automated test cases.
• Develop test plans and procedures.
• Execute and document tests.
• Recommend test equipment and tooling to meet product specs.
• Prepare reports on testing data and provide improvement input.
• Train team on test equipment and procedures.
• Keep up with new engineering testing developments.
• Support RFP processes related to testing needs.

Job description

The Software Test Engineer will be a hands-on technical contributor responsible for building, maintaining and scaling automated test frameworks for embedded software running on our precision field computer platform. The role focuses on developing a robust automated test cases based on system requirements, validating embedded to network communications and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate test requirements, based on specifications, standard procedures, and internal/external requirements.
• Design, create and run automated test cases.
• Develop test plans and procedures.
• Execute and document tests.
• Identify and recommend test equipment, production equipment, fixturing, or tooling needed to meet product specifications.
• Prepare reports of testing data, evaluate, and provide recommendations based on findings. Lead or contribute input for improvements.
• Train team members on utilization of test equipment and procedures.
• Keep abreast of new developments in the fields of engineering design, methods, and applications.
• May assist with the request for quote process, as related to needs for the testing function.

Experience Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field.
• 3+ years of experience in software test automation for embedded systems.
• Strong proficiency in Python with 3+ years of experience for test case development and framework automation
• Experience working with Selenium or Playwright
• Familiarity with virtualization/emulation environments.
• Experience with git and supporting CI/CD tools.
