Job summary

Ford Motor Company is seeking a leader to co-design, implement, test, and support software changes to Ford-developed control systems tools under the Vehicle Controls Tools Technical Specialist.

The role emphasizes C-language expertise for embedded environments, Unix development, GUI work with X-windows/Motif, Postgres/SQL, and strong communication. It includes global user support and collaboration with Enterprise Technology to deliver robust solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • In-depth C-language experience for embedded control environments.
  • Strong data structures, pointers, bit manipulation and parsing knowledge.
  • Unix development experience: make-files, gdb, bash, setuid, fork.
  • GUI development on Unix using X-windows/Motif.
  • Postgres SQL experience.
  • TCP/IP sockets, daemons, IPC, semaphores, file locking.
  • Code configuration management and Jira usage.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Co-design, implement, test and document software changes to control systems tools.
  • Follow change control processes to deliver approved changes.
  • Provide global user support via phone, email, IM and 1:1 interactions.
  • Manage user accounts and access controls in tools.
  • Co-lead conformance and upgrades to Enterprise Technologies standards.
  • Develop and deliver training materials for Ford community.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Technology as architect/product owner.
  • Document changes in manuals and media.
  • Participate in User Forum meetings.

Job description

In this role you will be co-leading the design, implementation, testing, documentation, and support of software changes to Ford-developed control systems tools under the direction of the Vehicle Controls Tools Technical Specialist.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, code, and test planned changes to software tools along-side with the Vehicle Controls Tools Technical Specialist.
  • Follow company policies and local change control process to bring approved changes to resolution.
  • Provide user support across the globe using phone, email, Instant Messaging, and 1/1 interactions. Includes in-house tools for powertrain controls planning, software build and release, calibration management, and calibration release tools.
  • Provide user account creation, maintenance, and access controls in user-interfacing tools.
  • Co-lead conformance and upgrades of existing Powertrain Controls Servers and Company required software to Enterprise Technologies standards.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of training material to world-wide Ford community.
  • Partner with Enterprise Technology as architect/product owner to leverage additional resources.
  • Document changes in the appropriate user manuals and other media.
  • Participate in User Forum meetings.
Position Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field
  • In-depth experience with the C-language, in support of an embedded control systems environment.
  • Must have in-depth and working experience with C language data structures, struct, union, pointers, bit manipulation techniques, file read/write, hash tables, recursion, and recursive decent parsing.
  • In-depth experience developing applications in a Unix environment, including make-files, gdb, bash, editing, setuid, and process fork.
  • In-Depth experience developing Graphical User Interfaces in a Unix environment, using X-windows and Motif.
  • Working experience with Postgres database, table record creation, and SQL.
  • In-depth experience with TCP/IP Sockets, creating Daemons, inter-process communication, semaphores, file locking.
  • Working experience of Code Configuration Management, Jira Issue Management. Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of industry standard file formats including ASAM e.V A2L, Intel H32, Motorola S-records.
  • Knowledge of GTK+, Wayland, Builder Xcessory
  • Knowledge of control system software and calibration development including ATI/Vision, ETAS/Inca.

This position is leadership level 6 and ranges from $132,800-$180,800.
