Job summary

Aether Aerospace is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to join our Defense Technology platform. You will analyze, design, and integrate hardware, software, and HMI solutions, delivering integrated results within cost and regulatory constraints, for DoD customers in a remote-first role with occasional on-site visits.

You will lead system test planning, implement patches, backups, and data integrity tasks, and collaborate across teams to meet performance goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with 10–12 years of related experience.
• Hands-on Linux system administration (RHCE equivalence).
• Experience with Keycloak integration.
• DevOps experience with AWS and Terraform.
• Familiar with STIGs, NIST/FEDRAMP, and IA compliance.
• Proven customer interaction and issue resolution skills.
• Experience scripting with Ansible, Bash, YAML, and Python.

• Develop integrated system test requirements, strategies, devices, and systems.
• Install new software releases, system upgrades, evaluating and installing patches and resolving software issues.
• Perform system backups and recovery.
• Maintain data files and monitor system configuration to ensure data integrity.
• Possesses and applies expertise across key tasks and high impact assignments.
• Plans and leads major assignments.
• Evaluates performance results and recommends major changes for project growth.
• Support ATO efforts by generating documents and gathering system artifacts.
• Functions as an expert across multiple project assignments.
• May supervise others.

OVERVIEW

Location: Remote, preferred Boston, MA or Dayton, OH

RESPONSIBILTIES

• Provide analysis, design, development, and integration of hardware, software, human-machine interfaces, and all system level requirements and functional objectives to provide an integrated solution while considering the limitations imposed by practicality, regulation, and cost.

• Develops integrated system test requirement, strategies, devices, and systems.

• Install new software releases, system upgrades, evaluating and installing patches and resolve software related problems.

• Perform system backups and recovery.

• Maintain data files and monitors system configuration to ensure data integrity.

• Possesses and applies expertise across key tasks and high impact assignments.

• Plans and leads major assignments.

• Evaluates performance results and recommends major changes affecting short-term project growth and success.

• Supports ATO efforts by generating documents and gathering system artifacts.

• Functions as an expert across multiple project assignments.

• May supervise others.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

Clearance: Active Secret Clearance
Education and Years of Experience: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and 10–12 years of cumulative relevant professional experience, including experience with the technologies and responsibilities outlined below.

• Security+ CE Certification (or other IAT Level II or III Certification)

• Hands on systems administration in Linux environments (RHCE equivalence)

• Keycloak Integration

• DevOps, AWS, Terraform

• Securing systems by following STIGs, best practices, and government/compliance requirements (such as NIST 800-53, NIST 800-27, NIST 800-137, FISMA, FEDRAMP), and negotiating/working-with IA personnel to arrive at sensible and effective solutions

• Customer interactions, including presenting, answering questions, proactively resolving issues

• Experience creating and analyzing Ansible, Bash, YAML and Python scripts

PREFERRED ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with IT Security concepts and implementations

• Experience implementing, managing, and configuring with AWS

• Experience with enhance data protection and compliance (such as OpenSSL, Keystores, Azure Key Vault, Cyphers)

• Experience with log management, network firewalls, and testing. (Being able to track down the root cause of a service/application failure through the use of logs and CLI-based tools (Log-based Analysis))

• Experience with researching, analyzing, documenting and presenting Analysis of Alternatives (AoA) for key product solutions

• Experience with Agile/Kanban, GitOps

$99,093 - $171,000 a year
