Job summary

Blue Origin in Washington state is seeking a System Safety Engineer to mentor engineers in developing safety-critical software for space systems. You will review processes, perform safety analyses, and ensure compliance with safety objectives across projects, while contributing to risk reduction and mission assurance.

The role requires a B.Sc. in aerospace or related field and 5+ years in embedded software for safety, plus experience with audits or standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a B.Sc. degree in aerospace engineering or related field.
• 5+ years software engineering experience developing embedded software in a safety industry, with 2+ years performing compliance audits OR developing plans to one or more standards (e.g. NASA-STD-8739.8A, FAA Part 450.141, MIL-STD-882, RCC 319-19, IEC 61508, RTCA DO-178C, IEC 61508, ISO 26262, etc.)
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently on rapid development programs.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

Interested in improving the safety of rockets, ground systems, and space destinations? This role will mentor engineers in developing safety critical software to avoid hazards. Safety engineering experience isn't required; but candidates need to have developed embedded safety software and demonstrate a deep understanding of software engineering, not just programming and testing. You will train engineers, review software processes, perform safety analysis and identify requirements, audit program compliance to safety objectives, perform risk characterization of open problems, and champion safety.

Base Pay Range for:

WA applicants is $121,023.00 - $169,432.20
