Software Engineer to join its Innovation Department. Reporting to our Director of Innovation, this role will help build the firm’s in-house technical capability by designing, developing, and maintaining business applications, workflow automations, and analytics solutions across the Microsoft Power Platform. The Software Engineer will work cross-functionally with attorneys, business services departments, and firm leadership to streamline legal operations, improve access to trusted data, and support the firm’s broader digital transformation.
The Software Engineer will be responsible for hands-on development across Power Apps, Power BI, Dataverse, Power Automate, SharePoint, SQL Server, Azure, and related systems. This position requires strong technical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to translate legal and operational needs into reliable, scalable, and user-friendly solutions.
Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Application Development
- Design, build, and maintain canvas and model-driven Power Apps for legal and business operations.
- Develop applications for use cases such as employee and people directories, matter intake, onboarding and offboarding, matter dashboards, and other internal workflows.
- Apply practical development standards to ensure solutions are scalable, reliable, and easy for users to adopt.
Data, Reporting and Analytics
- Create and maintain data structures in Dataverse and related systems, including firm-specific tables, fields, permissions, and governance requirements.
- Develop Power BI dashboards, reports, semantic models, DAX measures, and Power Query transformations.
- Turn raw firm data into clear, actionable business insight for attorneys, business services teams, and firm leadership.
Workflow Automation and Systems Integration
- Build and maintain Power Automate flows and integrations across Microsoft 365 and other line-of-business platforms.
- Support integrations with systems such as Aderant, CRM, iManage, SharePoint, SQL Server, Azure, and related platforms.
- Help streamline legal and administrative workflows through practical automation and thoughtful process design.
Quality, Governance and Collaboration
- Support testing, deployment, documentation, environment management, and application lifecycle management across development, test, and production environments.
- Contribute to data governance, row-level security, permissions, reusable templates, and compliance needs, including GDPR and European data residency considerations where applicable.
- Collaborate with the Innovation team, IT, finance, attorneys, and business analysts to gather requirements, communicate progress, and support user adoption.
- Other projects as assigned.
Qualifications and Desired Skills:
- 3-7+ years of experience building solutions on the Microsoft Power Platform, with demonstrable experience delivering Power Apps and Power BI solutions.
- Strong proficiency in Power Apps, Power BI, DAX, Power Fx, Power Query, data modeling, SQL, and Microsoft Dataverse.
- Experience integrating Microsoft 365 and business systems using APIs, connectors, dataflows, or related integration methods.
- Solid understanding of software development practices, documentation, testing, source control, environment management, data security, and governance.
- Excellent communication, analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams, offices, and time zones.
- Strong attention to detail, sound technical judgment, and a practical, service-oriented approach to solution delivery.
- Experience in a law firm or professional services environment, or with systems such as Aderant, iManage, or legal CRM platforms, is preferred.
- Microsoft certifications such as PL-100, PL-200, PL-300, PL-400, or PL-600 are preferred.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric, Azure services, PCF component development, RPA / desktop flows, custom connectors, CI/CD, or ALM for Power Platform is a plus.
