Job summary

Lockheed Martin Space is seeking an Agile Software Engineering Manager to lead a team of engineers delivering software for national security programs. The role emphasizes lean agile leadership, staffing strategy, and cost/schedule oversight across multiple programs.

Reporting to the Engineering & Technology organization, you will foster career development, drive continuous improvement, and ensure secure, compliant development for sensitive classified and unclassified efforts.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in full lifecycle of software or systems engineering for software-intensive projects.
  • Experience managing software/systems engineering with Agile methods, processes and practices.
  • Recent formal leadership experience (within the last year).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Directly and indirectly support execution of classified and unclassified programs via staffing, planning, workforce management and strategy.
  • Manage a team of roughly 15-18 engineers.
  • Have direct cost, execution, and schedule oversight for program budgets.

The Space Security Division within Lockheed Martin Space’s National Security Space business area is seeking a Software Engineering Manager experienced in agile methodologies to drive the execution of multiple projects/programs by leading a team of Software Developers and Engineers.

Reporting into the Engineering & Technology organization of Space, the selected agile leader will:

  • Directly and indirectly support the execution of classified and unclassified programs via a combination of direct program work and indirect staffing support, engineering planning, workforce management, and organizational strategy
  • Manage a team of roughly 15-18 engineers
  • Have direct cost, execution, and schedule oversight for project/program budgets
  • Lead, drive, and energize a team of multiple skills and job disciplines across multiple programs & business pursuits
  • Adapt to agile management methods that will require a dynamic staffing approach, depending on the time‑phased needs of the program
  • Deliver on Functional Management tasks related to personnel such as: career development, salary planning, training, employee development, succession planning, and the execution of strategic staffing initiatives

Agile leader duties will include at least one of the following based on need and experienced skillset: product ownership/management, cost account management, release management, escalation and removal team impediments, management of risk and the drive for continuous improvement.

Manages software development activities. Responsible for coordinating subordinate employee recruitment, selection and training, performance assessment, work assignments, salary, and recognition/disciplinary actions. Oversees the design, development, documentation, and testing of software that contains logical and mathematical solutions to business/mission problems or questions in computer language for solutions by means of data processing equipment. Applies the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the development life cycle. Applies knowledge of computer hardware and software, subject matter to be programmed in business/mission applications, information processing techniques used, and information gathered from system users to develop software. Ensures software standards are met.

Basic Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in full lifecycle of Software Engineering or Systems Engineering for software intensive projects
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding managing software and systems engineering efforts using Agile methods, processes, and practices
  • Recent formal leadership experience (within the last year)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $166900.00 - $309900.00

  • For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
