Job description

Why This Role Matters

Every day, millions of devices generate signals that tell the story of our customers' experiences on the T-Mobile network. The Device Intelligence & Geospatial Insights (DIGI) team transforms those signals into trusted data products, geospatial intelligence, and AI‑enabled insights that influence how T‑Mobile invests in its network, improves customer experience, and advances Autonomous Network capabilities.

As the Software Engineering Manager for DIGI, you will lead a highly technical engineering team responsible for building scalable software and data platform solutions that power critical business and technology decisions across the company. Although DIGI does not directly operate or optimize the network, the team’s insights drive strategic decisions that shape customer experience, network investment, device performance, and emerging AI‑enabled capabilities.

This is an opportunity to lead a lean, high‑impact engineering team solving complex technical challenges at enterprise scale while partnering with leaders across Network, Product, Care, Engineering, and other business organizations.

About the DIGI Team

The Device Intelligence & Geospatial Insights (DIGI) team develops the engineering platforms and trusted data products that help T‑Mobile understand what customers are experiencing on the network.

The team collects, manages, and transforms large‑scale device diagnostics into reusable data products, geospatial intelligence, and AI‑enabled insights that enable teams across T‑Mobile to identify customer‑impacting issues faster, prioritize network investments, improve device performance, and measure the impact of network changes.

Rather than operating the network directly, DIGI builds the software, platforms, and intelligence that help business and technical teams make better decisions.

What You’ll Do
Lead and Develop a High‑Performing Engineering Team
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers responsible for delivering scalable software and data platform solutions.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Support career development, performance management, hiring, and succession planning.
  • Build confidence and ownership within the team by removing technical blockers and helping engineers succeed.
Drive Technical Execution and Engineering Excellence
  • Lead technical execution across the team’s software and data platform initiatives.
  • Review architecture, influence technical design decisions, and guide engineering best practices.
  • Improve software development processes, platform scalability, operational efficiency, security, governance, and data quality.
  • Partner with senior engineers to solve complex technical challenges while maintaining high standards for reliability and maintainability.
  • Contribute technically when appropriate, including design discussions, architecture reviews, and hands‑on problem solving.
Deliver Strategic Data Products and Platform Capabilities
  • Partner closely with Network, Product, Care, Engineering, and business stakeholders to deliver trusted device intelligence and geospatial analytics capabilities.
  • Prioritize engineering work that delivers scalable, reusable data products supporting customer experience and Autonomous Network initiatives.
  • Manage technical vendor relationships and ensure delivered capabilities align with engineering and business objectives.
  • Translate complex engineering work into actionable business outcomes for stakeholders.
Build Organizational Capability
  • Recruit, onboard, and retain top engineering talent.
  • Develop future technical leaders while strengthening overall engineering capabilities.
  • Promote collaboration across distributed and cross‑functional teams.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform other duties and strategic initiatives as assigned.
What the Team Owns

DIGI owns the engineering and delivery of software platforms and data products that transform large‑scale device diagnostics into trusted business insights.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Device intelligence platforms
  • Device diagnostics and telemetry processing
  • Geospatial analytics capabilities
  • Trusted enterprise data products
  • AI‑enabled analytics services
  • Data quality and governance
  • Software platforms supporting internal business intelligence

The team influences business and network decisions by providing trusted intelligence but does not directly operate or optimize the production network.

How You’ll Partner

Success in this role depends on close collaboration across multiple organizations. You’ll regularly partner with:

  • Network Engineering – to provide trusted intelligence that helps identify customer‑impacting network issues and prioritize investments.
  • Product Management – to prioritize engineering work and evolve reusable platform capabilities.
  • Customer Care – to improve customer support through better diagnostics and actionable insights.
  • Engineering – to integrate DIGI data products into enterprise platforms and applications.
  • Business Leadership – to provide scalable engineering solutions that support strategic initiatives across T‑Mobile.
What Success Looks Like
  • Building a high‑performing, technically confident engineering team.
  • Successfully leading engineering execution across strategic initiatives.
  • Improving platform scalability, reliability, governance, and operational efficiency.
  • Increasing adoption of reusable data products across the enterprise.
  • Helping engineers grow through coaching, mentorship, and technical leadership.

The team develops cloud‑native software and data platform solutions using technologies that include:

  • Java
  • SQL
  • Snowflake
  • Databricks
  • Cloud‑based AI services
  • OpenAI‑powered development and analytics capabilities
  • Modern software engineering and SDLC practices

Experience across every technology is not required, but candidates should have strong software engineering fundamentals and experience leading modern engineering teams.

  • Driving architectural discussions and engineering best practices.
  • Partnering effectively across engineering and business organizations.
  • Delivering reliable, maintainable software solutions in fast‑paced environments.
