Job summary

Hermeus invites you to join as an internship focused on building software for the Quarterhorse unmanned aircraft. You’ll work with C++ and web technologies (TypeScript/JavaScript) to develop control systems for remotely piloted and autonomous flight modes.

Expect hands-on UI design and cockpit software usability work. The program runs spring and summer sessions (16 weeks and 12 weeks respectively), with compensation aligned to degree level.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an accredited college or university as an undergraduate (rising senior) or in a Master’s/PhD program.
• Pursuing Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or related degrees.
• C/C++ experience.
• Web applications experience (JavaScript/TypeScript/React/Angular/Electron).
• Knowledge of computer networking.
• Aviation/simulation experience.
• Strong understanding of engineering first principles.
• Demonstrated ability to work within cross-functional teams.
• GPA is 3.0 or above.
• Enthusiasm for aviation and Hermeus' mission.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Software development on the human-machine interaction (HMI) program used by flight crew to control the aircraft and run simulations.
• Software development on the communications software (RF, Satcom, networking) running on the ground and the vehicle.
• Collaborate with flight crew to develop and assess usability of cockpit software and hardware.
• Collaborate with engineers to display and control hardware systems.
• Participate in all stages of the software development lifecycle including planning, design, implementation, review, testing, documentation, and user evaluation.

About The Role

Join our team developing cutting-edge software for the Quarterhorse supersonic unmanned aircraft. You'll work with C++ and web technologies (TypeScript/JavaScript) to build control systems for both remotely piloted (HOTAS) and autonomous flight modes. This role includes designing and implementing intuitive user interfaces, ranging from hands-on control to point-and-click autonomy management.

Spring: Around 16 weeks (January - April)

Summer: Around 12 weeks (May - August)

Requirements

• Experience working on 2D or 3D games or simulations (especially Unreal, Unity, Cesium)
• Networking protocol knowledge (TCP/UDP), IP routing, Etc,
• User Interface (UI) or Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) classes

$25 - $33 an hour

The hourly rate listed for this internship is intended as a general guideline. Final compensation will be determined based on degree level.
