SpaceX is seeking a Software Engineer for STARSHIELD PRODUCTS in Washington, DC to own the health and performance of AI integrations with government systems. You will work with product, research, infrastructure, and governance teams to ensure reliable, secure deployments of AI capabilities.
Requirements include a STEM degree or 2+ years of software development, strong Python, and experience with LLMs, APIs, and scalable enterprise applications.

SOFTWARE ENGINEER (STARSHIELD PRODUCTS)
This team focuses on operating and deploying AI capabilities (models, APIs, tools, and integrations) for U.S. federal agencies. You'll work closely with product, research, infrastructure, and legal/governance teams to make AI and future models maximally useful for missions while upholding SpaceX's standards, transparency, and ethical standards.
Starshield Product Engineers are responsible for the health, performance, and stability of the services that power these missions. You own the full end-to-end cycle of service reliability—from responding to outages to improving codebases and building lasting solutions.
You will tackle critical issues for key government customers, introduce observability into complex systems, address technical debt in essential codebases, and inform strategic investments in core products. We are looking for engineers who enjoy deep-dive troubleshooting, feel strong ownership over the problems they encounter, and recognize the urgency of customer-facing outages.
During periodic on-call shifts, you will respond to automated alerts, investigate issues reported by customers, and share technical expertise with adjacent product teams.

Pay Range:
Level 1: $135,000.00 - $175,000.00
Level 2: $155,000.00 - $210,000.00
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
