Overview

The Aerospace Corporation is a federally funded research and development center that partners with the nation’s space programs to deliver advanced software solutions across satellite, launch, ground, and cyber domains.

Work Model

This is a full‑time position based in El Segundo, CA.

Responsibilities

• Provide software systems engineering skills for space, ground, and launch systems in national security, civil, and commercial domains.
• Design and develop backend services and REST APIs that integrate with enterprise systems, cloud platforms, and data sources.
• Build and maintain data ingestion pipelines, including metadata extraction, content indexing, change detection, and automated job monitoring.
• Extend workflow automation systems with process definitions, business validation logic, audit logging, and notification services.
• Identify opportunities to adopt emerging technologies (AI/ML, large language models) to solve organizational challenges and predict future needs.
• Leverage cloud platforms and modern tooling to replace legacy systems with maintainable, automated solutions.
• Collaborate across the corporation to develop cross‑domain solutions and engage with customers to deliver impactful software.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
• Four or more years of experience with increasing responsibility in software engineering or architecture.
• Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and quickly learn new technologies and languages.
• Experience in full‑lifecycle development and advanced problem solving.
• Proficiency in at least one of the following: modernizing legacy pipelines, designing backend services with frameworks such as Spring Boot, AI/ML applications (LLM, RAG, NLP), data ingestion pipelines, cloud and microservices architecture, integration across on‑prem, cloud, and hybrid environments, Agile methodologies, DevOps, and CI/CD.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to domestic locations or customer sites.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

• Six or more years of industry experience delivering enterprise backend services.
• Deep expertise in two or more of the following areas: modernization of manual processes, enterprise data ingestion systems, AI/ML initiatives, backend service development with Spring Boot, workflow automation platforms, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), or Agile/CI‑CD pipelines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for conveying complex technical information to a wide audience.
• Demonstrated leadership of innovation within established teams.
