Job summary

OpenAI is seeking experienced software engineers to join the Online Storage team, building a large-scale database and scalable storage infrastructure powering OpenAI products. You will design, implement, and optimize systems, collaborate with product teams to meet evolving needs, and own reliability, safety, and performance across high-scale production services.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of industry experience with leadership of large-scale projects or technical initiatives as an engineer or tech lead
• Strong passion for building distributed systems with reliability, scalability, security and improvement
• Expertise in systems programming, multi-threading and concurrency; C++ and/or Python highly preferred
• Experience in databases, large-scale data systems, storage, caching, search, or core distributed infra components
• Excellent communication skills and ability to build consensus across diverse stakeholders

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable, reliable, and performant database systems
• Design simple, intuitive APIs for the underlying database
• Analyze and resolve performance and scalability bottlenecks
• Debug, instrument, and fix system issues from root causes to long-term solutions
• Define technical strategy and guide development of robust infrastructure
• Collaborate with product teams to understand requirements and deliver solutions
• Boost engineering productivity with intuitive tools and systems for developers
• Foster an inclusive team culture and encourage diverse perspectives
• Own system reliability and participate in on-call rotation
