Job summary

Cloudflare is seeking engineers for the R2 Gateway team to design, implement, and operate a scalable S3-compatible API gateway integrated with Cloudflare's global network. You will work on authentication, routing, and orchestration across storage and metadata layers, leveraging Cloudflare Workers and edge computing to deliver low-latency, highly available services.

Ideal candidates have 3–4 years in large-scale distributed systems, strong coding skills in Rust/TypeScript/Go, and experience with

Qualifications

Strong programming skills in Rust, TypeScript, Go, or similar languages.
3-4 years of experience building or operating large-scale distributed systems on the request path.
Familiarity with cloud infrastructure concepts such as object storage, HTTP/API gateways, edge computing, or service-oriented architectures.
Experience designing and operating high-throughput APIs — authentication, routing, rate limiting, and backward-compatible API evolution.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, and operate the S3-compatible API gateway for all R2 operations.
Build and operate production services on Cloudflare Workers and Kubernetes for high-throughput traffic.
Own the request path end to end: auth, routing, rate limiting, error handling, interfacing with storage/metadata layers.
Own projects end to end from design docs to production monitoring.
