Job summary

eBay in Austin, TX is seeking a Software Engineer - Recent Grad (Traffic) to design, build, and operate traffic management and routing systems that improve availability, performance, and network security. Qualifications

• Graduate of a full-time accredited Masters degree program within the United States. Graduated no earlier than Fall/Winter 2025 or Spring/Summer 2026. We are currently only considering Masters candidates for this role.
• Programming: Proficiency in Java, C++, or Go (data structures, concurrency basics, debugging).
• Understanding of/Experience with Networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, load balancing, TLS fundamentals.
• Systems fundamentals: Understanding of Linux and distributed systems basics.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop traffic solutions: Build and maintain services/tools to manage and optimize traffic flow using Java, C++, or Go.
• Optimize network security: Implement and improve secure traffic patterns and controls (e.g., secure service communication, safe routing, hardening, policy enforcement).
• Manage scalability on Kubernetes: Deploy, operate, and troubleshoot services running on Kubernetes across distributed environments.
• Develop high-performance, low-latency architectures: Improve latency and throughput through efficient design, profiling, and performance tuning.
• Monitoring and incident support: Use logs/metrics/traces to debug production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and drive reliability improvements.
• Multi-functional collaboration: Partner with SRE, platform, and application teams to integrate traffic and networking solutions cleanly and safely.

• Familiarity with Envoy or similar proxies/gateways (NGINX, HAProxy).

• Observability tooling (Prometheus/Grafana, ELK, OpenTelemetry).

• Experience with performance profiling, benchmarking, and latency reduction initiatives.

• Exposure to PoP/edge concepts or global traffic steering is a plus.
