BairesDev, a leader in technology projects for 15+ years, is seeking a Software Engineer (Query Engine). This role focuses on designing and optimizing core components for high-performance data retrieval, bridging high-level queries and low-level execution.

You will work remotely on a world-class data platform, collaborating with global teams. 4+ years of experience, Java or C++, Parquet/Iceberg, and strong English are required; excellent USD compensation and flexible schedule.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of software engineering experience with focus on database internals or query engines.
• Expertise in query engine internals: planners, optimizers, and execution engines.
• Proficient in systems programming with Java or C++.
• Deep understanding of columnar storage formats (Parquet, Iceberg) and vectorized execution.
• Advanced English proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement query planners and cost-based optimizers to generate efficient execution paths.
• Develop high-performance execution engines using vectorized processing and SIMD instructions to leverage modern CPU architectures.
• Optimize columnar storage interactions to minimize I/O and maximize data throughput for analytical queries.
• Build and refine query engine internals, including join algorithms, aggregation frameworks, and sorting mechanisms.
• Collaborate with infrastructure teams to integrate specialized query engines into broader data platform architectures.
