Northrop Grumman Defense Systems (NGDS) seeks a Software Engineer to join the Mission Planning team in Hollywood, MD. You will design, develop, test, and maintain high‑performance software for mission planning and execution, working in a cross‑functional scrum environment.

Qualifications

Overview

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems (NGDS) is seeking a Software Engineer / Principal Software Engineer to join our Mission Planning systems team in Hollywood, MD. The role focuses on developing, testing, and maintaining high‑performance software solutions for mission planning and execution.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, document, test, and debug application software and systems, ensuring compliance with software standards
• Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines for rapid, bug‑free delivery of production software
• Set up and deploy development, test, and build environments and create/update Windows installers
• Install, test, and verify software products and provide build‑and‑installation support
• Participate in cross‑functional scrum teams to deliver mission planning features
• Interface with third‑party software and hardware to implement software interfaces and support integration
• Develop and maintain test products such as Verification Cross Reference Matrices, Test Plans, Procedures, and Reports
• Define and develop test approaches for new software/system capabilities
• Collect data and define changes to testing procedures or new testing requirements
• Perform Smoke and Acceptance Testing on software builds
• Resolve technical issues within and across scrum teams, collaborating with functional roles
• Interface on a technical level with the customer
• Support authoring of contract deliverable documentation for software products and test events
• Help define automated test strategies and support the Agile framework as a Scrum Master when required

Basic Qualifications – Software Engineer

• Bachelor’s degree in STEM and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 0 years of experience
• US citizenship and current Secret clearance adjudicated within the last 5 years, with ability to obtain SAP clearance
• Experience with Agile methodology and CI/CD tools such as Bamboo or Jenkins
• Proficiency in C# and/or Java and Object‑Oriented Software Design paradigms
• Experience with Microsoft Windows technologies
• Test procedure development and maintenance; support formal test events
• Proficiency with scripts: YAML, Python, PowerShell, Batch, TypeScript
• Automated test script or procedure development and maintenance (e.g., TestComplete 4)
• Understanding of revision control systems such as BitBucket, Git, or CVS
• Hands‑on system troubleshooting skills

Basic Qualifications – Principal Software Engineer

• Bachelor’s degree in STEM and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 3 years of experience
• US citizenship and current DoD Top Secret clearance adjudicated within the last 5 years, with ability to obtain SAP clearance
• Experience with Agile methodology and CI/CD tools such as Bamboo or Jenkins
• Proficiency in C# and/or Java and Object‑Oriented Software Design paradigms
• Experience with Microsoft Windows technologies
• Test procedure development and maintenance; support formal test events
• Proficiency with scripts: YAML, Python, PowerShell, Batch, TypeScript
• Automated test script or procedure development and maintenance (e.g., TestComplete 4)
• Understanding of revision control systems such as BitBucket, Git, or CVS
• Hands‑on system troubleshooting skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency in C# and .NET Framework
• Experience with Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and Windows‑based applications
• Experience with microservice development and gRPC/REST protocols
• Experience with software design patterns
• Experience with relational databases and SQL
• Experience with Atlassian tools: Bitbucket, Jira, Confluence, Crucible/Fish‑eye
• Familiarity with cloud technologies such as Azure and/or AWS
• Familiarity with containers in Docker and/or Kubernetes
• Experience with DevOps tools: Ansible, Terraform, Chef, or Puppet
• Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and analytic skills
• In‑depth mission planning domain knowledge of program software design
• Certified ScrumMaster® (CSM®) or Professional Scrum Master™ (PSM™) certification
• Experience working with requirements in DOORS
• Demonstrated ability to implement process improvements and develop efficiencies
• Experience with Joint Mission Planning System (JMPS) Framework
• Exposure to Infrastructure as Code (IaC) development
• Experience with Air Force mission planning

Salary

Primary Level Range: $91,800 – $137,600
Secondary Level Range: $114,000 – $171,000
Base salary is determined by scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.
