Job summary

WEX, Inc. is seeking a Software Engineer within the Corporate Payments Engineering organization to develop and drive software solutions for the Bill Pay platform.

You will work on scalable Java/Spring Boot services in AWS, build event-driven systems with Kafka, and optimize PostgreSQL and Oracle databases while upholding security and quality in an agile environment. You will collaborate across teams to reduce duplication, contribute to architectural roadmaps, and support rapid-time-to-market

Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience deploying applications on AWS Cloud.
• Experience building event-driven apps with Apache Kafka.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and Oracle databases, including Oracle stored procedures.
• Experience writing automated tests (unit, component, integration) and understanding the test pyramid.
• Solid knowledge of software design principles, security, and cloud data compliance.
• Excellent problem-solving and collaboration skills, in a fast-paced agile environment.

About the Team/Role

We are seeking a Software Engineer in the WEX Corporate Payments Engineering organization. This role will be a key software engineer responsible for helping develop, drive, and execute software solutions within the WEX Bill Pay platform engineering team. Bill Pay is a SaaS solution for technology and service providers in the consumer bill payment space that facilitates the collection and delivery of consumer payments.

How you'll make an impact:

• Help develop, drive, and execute the long-term vision and strategy for the Corporate Payments cross-cutting and core services.
• Collaboratively define and implement the architectural roadmap for the Bill Pay platform, aligning with business objectives, industry best practices, and other Corporate Payments engineering teams.
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable Java and Spring Boot applications running in AWS Cloud.
• Build and enhance event-driven services using Apache Kafka.
• Develop and maintain database solutions using PostgreSQL and Oracle, including SQL development and Oracle stored procedures.
• Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, empowerment, and continuous learning within the engineering team.
• Continuously challenge the status quo and implement engineering practices that reduce time-to-market while maintaining quality and reliability.
• Collaborate with other Corporate Payments engineering teams to reuse development practices, services, and components to reduce duplication.

Experience you'll bring:

• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong experience developing applications using Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience developing and deploying applications on AWS Cloud.
• Experience building event-driven applications using Apache Kafka.
• Experience developing and supporting applications using PostgreSQL and Oracle Database, including Oracle stored procedures and SQL optimization.
• Experience writing high-quality automated tests, including unit, component, and integration tests, with a strong understanding of the test pyramid.
• Strong understanding of software design principles, security, and compliance requirements in cloud and data environments.
• Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and technical communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, agile environment with changing priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience building applications in the financial services or payments industry, including bill pay, credit card, accounts receivable, or accounts payable solutions.
• Experience developing cloud-native SaaS applications.
• Experience working with geographically distributed engineering teams.

The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan.
