Job summary

Coinbase, a remote-first company, is hiring for a backend-focused role within the Money Movement team. You will design and build infrastructure powering stablecoin-based payments, and collaborate with product, design, and compliance to deliver secure and scalable solutions.

You will own projects end-to-end as the DRI, drive production deployments, and contribute to reliability and performance improvements across distributed systems, including on-chain integrations.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of backend software engineering experience, fintech/payments/crypto preferred.
• Proficiency in backend languages (Go, Java) and cloud infra (AWS, GCP).
• Experience designing distributed systems and APIs.
• Proven track record as DRI for end-to-end technical projects.
• Experience with blockchain/crypto technologies such as stablecoins or on-chain payments.
• Ability to write technical design docs and communicate trade-offs.

• Own key backend projects end-to-end as the DRI, delivering stablecoin-based money movement features from design to production.
• Build backend systems, infra, and APIs to enable embedding payments into partner products.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Infrastructure, and Compliance to balance speed, security, and regulatory needs.
• Improve performance, scalability, and reliability across distributed systems and resolve bottlenecks.
• Contribute to engineering quality through code reviews and architectural best practices.

Join the Money Movement team within the Developer product group and help build the infrastructure powering the future of global payments. CDP brings together payments, trading, wallets, and stablecoins through a single onboarding flow and self-service APIs. You'll design and build backend systems for stablecoin-based pay-ins, payouts, deposits, and withdrawals, enabling fast, secure, and scalable transfers that underpin how value moves across the Coinbase ecosystem and beyond.

What you'll do:

• Own key projects end-to-end as the Directly Responsible Individual, driving stablecoin-based money movement features from system design through production deployment with high accountability.




• Build backend systems, infrastructure, and internal/external APIs that enable businesses and partners to embed stablecoin-powered payments into their products.




• Partner with Product, Design, Infrastructure, and Compliance to translate requirements into robust, scalable solutions that balance speed, security, and regulatory needs.




• Execute performance, scalability, and reliability improvements across distributed systems, identifying bottlenecks and driving fixes before they impact customers.




• Support the team's engineering quality through code reviews, architectural best practices, and contributing to patterns that raise the technical bar.

Required Skills and Experience:

• 2+ years of software engineering experience building and operating backend systems, ideally in fintech, payments, or crypto.




• Proficiency in backend languages (e.g., Go, Java) and cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP), with hands-on experience designing distributed systems and APIs.




• Track record of serving as DRI for technical projects, driving end-to-end delivery from system design through production deployment.




• Experience integrating with or building on blockchain or crypto technologies such as stablecoins, on-chain payments, or smart contract platforms (e.g., Ethereum, Solana, Base).




• Demonstrated ability to write technical design documents and communicate architecture trade-offs to product and engineering stakeholders.




• Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

• $154,000-$154,000 CAD
