Job summary

Google Sunnyvale, CA, USA is seeking a Software Engineer Manager for the Node Performance team. You will lead engineers across multiple teams, own project goals, and contribute to the product strategy while developing your team.

The role involves coordinating across sites to deliver large-scale, high-impact compute infrastructure projects with an emphasis on reliability and efficiency. As a manager, you guide technical direction and execution, aligning effort with broader Google Compute

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 3 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage Engineers across multiple teams and locations, guiding project goals and roadmaps.
  • Contribute to product strategy and help develop the team’s capabilities.
  • Oversee deployment of large-scale projects across sites internationally.
  • Drive high-impact, cross-functional initiatives within the compute infrastructure organization.

  • 8 years of experience in software development.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Experience managing and influencing large groups of engineers and driving large-scale efforts to fruition.
  • Experience with system software, distributed systems, cluster management, and complex multi-component software systems.
  • Passion for reliability, efficiency, and scale as well as an understanding of key concepts in performance analysis and tuning.

  • Design and analyze computer systems and their interactions with the kernel, hardware, cluster software, and compute infrastructure users.
  • Partner with technical leaders within and outside of the compute infrastructure organization to build and align the team's roadmap.
  • Drive the team's planning and strategy as well as owning execution against the roadmap.
  • Drive high impact, cross-functional projects within and beyond the broader Google Compute Infrastructure (GCI) organization.
