Job summary

Alibaba Cloud is building the core components of cloud storage to serve merchants, brands, and businesses by delivering scalable infrastructure and data services. This role focuses on designing, developing, and testing large‑scale storage services, with emphasis on reliability and performance.

You will deploy, monitor, and diagnose complex distributed systems, tackle scalability challenges, and collaborate across teams to push the boundaries of cloud-native storage technology.

In Alibaba Cloud, we provide the fundamental Cloud technology and infrastructure to help merchants, brands and other businesses that provide products, services and digital content to leverage the power of the Internet to engage with their users and customers. Our team is tasked to build the core components of Alibaba cloud storage. We have created a planetary scale distributed systems that handles hundreds of billions of requests per day and stores multiple exabytes of data. We are constantly delivering the next killer feature and tackling interesting challenges in technologies such as big-data, Cloud Native, and etc. We provide reliable, highly scalable and highly performing distributed file system services on which our users build their mission critical services.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and test large‑scale cloud storage services.
• Deploy, manage, monitor and diagnose large‑scale software systems.
• Create innovative solutions for system scalability, reliability and availability problems.

Job Requirements

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands‑on and seasoned experience in development of cloud infrastructures.
• Deep knowledge of the internals of open‑source systems such as Linux, HBase, Cassandra, Hadoop, Kubernetes, and so on.
• Development experience with Paxos, Raft and other fault‑tolerant protocols.
• Passionate about technology, demonstrated ability to generate new ideas and innovations.
• Prior research experience demonstrated by publications or open‑source software.
• Cross‑team and inter‑department collaboration experience.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $142,000 and $234,000 per year. However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.

If hired, employee will be in an “at‑will” position and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Alibaba U.S. based full time regular employees have access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and basic life insurance, and wellbeing benefits like FSA, subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans in effect. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive up to 12 paid holidays, accrue up to 15 paid vacation days for this position, and receive up to 72 hours paid sick time (front‑loaded) per calendar year.
