Job summary

Akuna Capital in Chicago is offering a 10-week Web Software Engineer Intern program on the UI team. You will work directly with Traders, Quants, and other Software Engineers to design, build, test, and maintain real-time trading applications, taking full ownership of your project and presenting your results at the program’s end.

Ideal candidates pursue a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in CS/Engineering, graduate by August 2028, with a 3.5+ GPA.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a technical degree in CS/Engineering (Bachelors, Masters or PhD).
• Graduating by August 2028.
• Major GPA of 3.5 or above.
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. on day one (F-1 OPT/STEM allowed).

Responsibilities

What you'll do as a Full Stack Web Software Engineer Intern on the UI team

We are seeking Web Software Engineer Interns to join the UI team for our 10‑week Akunacademy summer internship program. You will work directly with Traders, Quants, and other Software Engineers to design, build, test, and maintain real‑time trading applications. Each intern takes full ownership of their project and has the opportunity to present their work at the end of the program.

• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to design and develop web applications using React, TypeScript, and Python.
• Implement sound and robust unit and integration tests to ensure software quality.
• Continuously discover, evaluate, and implement technologies to maximize user experience and development efficiency.
• Participate in Agile/Scrum development and shadow application support processes.

Requirements

• Pursuing a Bachelors, Masters, or Ph.D. in a technical field – Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent.
• Graduating by August 2028.
• Major GPA of 3.5 or above.
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. on the first day of employment, including F‑1 students using OPT or STEM extensions.

Qualities that make great candidates

• Understanding of web programming languages (JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, HTML/CSS).
• Familiarity with Linux and a command‑line shell.
• Understanding of unit testing concepts and frameworks (e.g., pytest, Jest, Storybook).
• Familiarity with version control systems (Git).
• Solid problem‑solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
• Self‑starter attitude with the ability to work independently.

In accordance with the Illinois Equal Pay Act, the minimum annualized base salary starts at $145,000. Exact compensation offered may vary based on many factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, and skill set. The minimum base salary herein was determined in good faith by Akuna Capital LLC.
