Job summary

WEX, Inc. is offering a Summer Internship Program as a Software Engineer Intern within the Technology team across the United States. This 13-week paid internship runs from late May to mid-August, with recruiting from September through November at various U.S.

locations. Interns work on impactful projects, receive mentorship, and have opportunities to lead initiatives. You’ll gain hands-on experience in building scalable software, AI-driven solutions, and modern practices.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Proficiency in at least one server-side language (C#, Go, Java).
• Familiarity with AI/ML concepts, LLM integration, or AI agent frameworks (LangChain, AutoGen) is a plus.
• Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset.

Responsibilities

• Build AI solutions: design, prototype, and deploy AI agents and LLM integrations.
• Ship production code across the full software lifecycle including APIs, tests, and CI/CD.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate customer needs into resilient microservices.

About the Team/Role:

As a Software Engineer Intern on the WEX Technology team, you will collaborate with Product Managers and engineers to solve complex business challenges. You will gain hands‑on experience building scalable software, leveraging modern practices, and developing AI-driven solutions.

How you'll make an impact:

• Build AI Solutions: Design, prototype, and deploy AI agents and LLM integrations to automate workflows and enhance product capabilities.

• Ship Production Code: Work across the full software lifecycle-from API design and implementation to automated testing and CI/CD deployment.

• Collaborate & Innovate: Partner with cross-functional teams to translate customer needs into resilient, high-availability microservices.

• Learn & Grow: Apply TDD/BDD practices, receive peer mentorship, and continuously explore modern technologies and frameworks.

Experience you'll bring:

• Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

• Proficiency in at least one server-side language (languages we use and teach: C#, Go, Java).

• Familiarity with AI/ML concepts, LLM integration, or AI agent frameworks (e.g., LangChain, AutoGen) through coursework or personal projects is a plus.

• Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset.

The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan.
