Job summary

Bitplaza is seeking a Backend Engineer with 2 years of professional experience to help build and scale the Opportunity Engine, a platform connecting Builders with Organizations through opportunities, applications, profiles, messaging, and intelligent matching.

This backend-focused role requires collaboration with frontend engineers and other teams. The position is remote and part-time, offering a $500/mo stipend to support a lean startup environment.

Qualifications

• 2 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
• Strong proficiency in Python and FastAPI or a similar framework.
• Experience building REST APIs and working with PostgreSQL.
• Experience with SQLAlchemy/SQLModel and database migrations.
• Working knowledge of React, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
• Experience with Git and Docker.
• Familiarity with cloud environments, preferably AWS.
• Understanding of software engineering fundamentals, testing, debugging, and API design.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and REST APIs using Python and FastAPI.
• Build and improve core Opportunity Engine features, business logic, and integrations.
• Design and optimize PostgreSQL databases and data models.
• Contribute to AI-powered matching, semantic search, and other platform capabilities.
• Work with real-time functionality and background processes where required.
• Write automated tests and participate in code reviews.
• Deploy and maintain services using Docker and AWS.
• Troubleshoot production issues and improve performance, security, and reliability.
• Collaborate with frontend and product teams to deliver features end-to-end.
• Understand and contribute to the broader application stack when required.
