Job summary

Chime is seeking an engineer for the Instant Loans team to design, develop, test, refactor and scale backend implementations and build resilient APIs powering member experiences. You will collaborate with product, design, data and risk to expand access to fair credit.

The role requires 3+ years in production software, with Ruby on Rails or comparable frameworks, API design experience, and a product-minded approach.

• Comfort working across the stack and an eagerness to learn new technologies.
• Experience designing APIs, working with transactional databases and caching systems.
• A product mindset with a strong bias toward experimentation, iteration, and measuring impact.

• Proactively identify opportunities for improving the reliability and scalability of our systems.
• Engineers are required to participate in on-call rotation. Being on call may include responding to incidents outside of regular working hours when necessary.

About the role

Chime’s Instant Loans team builds products that give members upfront liquidity for larger, specific needs, with clear, predictable repayment that helps them build credit responsibly. As an engineer on the team, you’ll work across the stack to build and scale services that offer a few hundred to a few thousand dollars over terms from months to years, making fair credit accessible to people who are often denied by traditional banks. This role is ideal for engineers who want to move quickly, collaborate closely with product, design, data, and risk, and care deeply about expanding financial access and stability for millions of members.

The base salary offered for this role and level of experience will begin at $133,000 and up to $184,000. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.

In this role, you can expect to

• A product mindset with a strong bias toward experimentation, iteration, and measuring impact
• Exposure to large-scale architecture patterns and an appreciation for clean, maintainable code
• A collaborative spirit and strong communication skills, with experience working cross-functionally
• Experience working in a fast-paced, product-focused environment (Fintech experience is a plus)
