Role: Software Engineer - DevSecOps and Infrastructure
Location: Remote USA - They do have DC office if you prefer to be on site
A lean, venture-backed defense technology company is hiring a Senior Software Engineer with strong DevSecOps and Infrastructure-as-Code experience.
The company is building compliance infrastructure for defense software. Its platform embeds security and compliance directly into how software is built, replacing broken manual authorization processes so defense companies and government teams can ship secure-by-design software faster.
The role
This is not a traditional DevOps role focused only on CI/CD pipelines or cloud infrastructure. You will own the environments that run the platform while also contributing directly to the application itself.
As part of a small startup, you will work across boundaries. One week you may be deploying cloud infrastructure, troubleshooting production, improving CI/CD, implementing security controls or building a new product feature with modern AI development tools.
What you will do
- Design, deploy and maintain secure cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code
- Build and maintain infrastructure for development, testing and production environments
- Develop and improve CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes
- Implement DevSecOps practices across the software development lifecycle
- Troubleshoot infrastructure, application, networking, container and deployment issues
- Help design architectures suitable for highly regulated and security-sensitive environments
- Automate repetitive operational and engineering processes
- Implement security controls, logging, monitoring, secrets management and configuration management
- Review infrastructure and application changes for security, reliability and maintainability
- Contribute directly to application development, including new features and defect resolution
- Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery while maintaining quality and appropriate review
- Take ownership of technical problems from investigation through production deployment
- Work closely with leadership and engineers to turn customer and mission needs into working software
What you bring
- Significant professional software engineering experience, including operating production systems
- Strong Infrastructure as Code experience with Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation or similar
- Strong experience designing, deploying and maintaining cloud infrastructure
- AWS experience across networking, IAM, compute, containers, databases, storage, logging and secrets management
- Container experience with Docker, ECS or Kubernetes/EKS
- Strong CI/CD and automated software delivery experience
- Experience implementing secure development and DevSecOps practices
- Strong understanding of cloud security, including IAM, least privilege, network segmentation, encryption, secrets management and audit logging
- Ability to troubleshoot complex systems across application and infrastructure boundaries
- Ability to read, modify and develop production application code
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools with the judgment to validate, test and improve the output
- Strong Git and code-review practices
- Strong written and verbal communication
Who will succeed
- Self-directed, able to take a problem and drive it to completion without a detailed task list
- Hands-on, solving difficult technical problems rather than coordinating others
- Comfortable with ambiguity and making sound decisions with incomplete information
- Pragmatic, balancing correctness with avoiding over-engineering
- Security-minded, treating security as part of the architecture and development process
- Fast without being careless
- Curious and willing to work outside their primary specialty
- Accountable through deployment, validation and resolution
