Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to design, develop, and maintain automated test solutions for .NET-based software applications. This role is ideal for a strong software developer who specializes in test automation, writes clean and maintainable code, and understands how to build reliable, scalable testing frameworks.
The ideal candidate has deep experience with C# and the .NET ecosystem, including unit testing, mocking frameworks such as MOQ, automated integration testing, and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines. This is a coding-intensive position requiring someone who can develop test infrastructure, improve test coverage, troubleshoot complex issues, and collaborate closely with software engineers in an Agile environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks and test suites using C# and .NET technologies.
- Write high-quality, reusable, and maintainable code for unit, integration, and automated regression testing.
- Implement unit tests using frameworks such as xUnit, NUnit, or MSTest.
- Utilize MOQ or similar mocking frameworks to isolate dependencies and validate application behavior.
- Develop automated tests for APIs, backend services, and distributed software components.
- Validate RESTful APIs using tools and libraries such as REST clients, Postman, or HttpClient.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to support continuous testing and rapid feedback.
- Collaborate with software developers, architects, and product teams to identify test scenarios, edge cases, and potential failure points.
- Analyze test failures, debug application behavior, identify root causes, and work with development teams to resolve defects.
- Improve test coverage, test reliability, execution speed, and overall software quality.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and Agile development activities.
- Contribute to testing best practices, coding standards, and continuous improvement of the development and testing process.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of software development or test automation experience, with substantial hands‑on coding in C# and .NET.
- Strong proficiency in C#, object‑oriented programming, and software design principles.
- Demonstrated experience building and maintaining automated testing frameworks.
- Strong experience with unit testing frameworks such as xUnit, NUnit, or MSTest.
- Hands‑on experience with MOQ or similar mocking frameworks, including mocking dependencies, configuring behavior, and verifying interactions.
- Experience with API testing, integration testing, and automated regression testing.
- Solid understanding of software architecture, dependency injection, interfaces, and testable code design.
- Experience working with Git or similar source control systems.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated build and test processes.
- Strong debugging, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment and communicate effectively with distributed engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with modern .NET / .NET Core.
- Experience testing microservices, asynchronous workflows, and distributed systems.
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or comparable CI/CD platforms.
- Experience with SQL databases and data‑driven testing.
- Familiarity with Docker, containerized environments, and cloud‑based applications.
- Experience with performance, reliability, or security testing.
- Experience working in an Agile or Scrum development environment.
What Success Looks Like
- Reliable, maintainable automated tests that provide fast feedback to developers.
- Increased test coverage and reduced dependence on manual testing.
- Effective isolation of application components using mocks and test doubles.
- Earlier identification of defects and fewer issues reaching production.
- A strong partnership with software engineering teams to build quality into the development lifecycle.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a developer first, tester second: someone who enjoys writing production‑quality code, understands software engineering fundamentals, and can build robust automation rather than simply execute test cases. This person takes ownership of test quality, works independently, and brings a practical, engineering‑driven approach to software testing.
