Job summary

Google is seeking a Software Engineer III for AI/ML within Google Cloud AI Research. The role centers on developing and maintaining code for ML-powered enhancements across a suite of products used by billions. You will collaborate on design reviews, produce documentation, and tackle ML deployment and data processing challenges.

Ideal candidates have a BS or equivalent, 2+ years in Python or C++, and 1+ year in ML domains or ML infra. Master’s/PhD and RL experience are preferred.

What you'll do

• Develop and maintain code for product or system enhancements, ensuring high-quality standards.
• Engage in collaborative design and code reviews with team members and stakeholders to uphold best practices in technology usage.
• Create and update documentation or educational materials, adapting them based on user feedback and product changes.
• Identify and troubleshoot product or system issues by analyzing their sources and assessing their effects on hardware, network, or service quality.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience is essential.
• A minimum of 2 years of programming experience in Python or C++.
• At least 1 year of experience in one or more areas such as speech/audio technology, reinforcement learning, machine learning infrastructure, or another specialized ML field.
• A minimum of 1 year of experience with ML infrastructure, including tasks like model deployment, evaluation, optimization, data processing, and debugging.

Preferred qualifications

• A Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical discipline is highly regarded.
• At least 2 years of experience working with data structures or algorithms.
• Experience in developing technologies that are accessible to a broader audience.

Skills & tools

• Proficiency in programming languages, particularly Python and C++.
• Strong understanding of machine learning concepts and their practical applications.
• Familiarity with model deployment and evaluation processes.
• Experience in debugging and optimizing systems for performance.

The salary range for this position is between $147,000 and $210,000 per year, accompanied by a bonus target of 15% and equity options. Individual compensation will be determined based on factors such as relevant skills, experience, and educational background.
