Job summary

Walmart Global Tech in Sunnyvale, CA is seeking a Software Engineer III to design, build, and scale high-impact systems across backend services, automation, and GenAI-powered tools. This onsite role emphasizes ownership, cross‑functional collaboration, and performance.

You will work with Java/Python, REST/GraphQL, and automation frameworks to improve engineering productivity, reliability, and security at scale across Walmart’s global supply chain ecosystems.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in Full stack engineering, automation, or quality engineering.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or related field.
  • Strong experience with Java and Python, or similar languages.
  • Hands-on experience with REST/GraphQL APIs, distributed systems, and backend automation with RestAssured.
  • Experience with mobile/web automation frameworks (Appium, XCUI Test, Selenium, Playwright).
  • Strong working knowledge of SQL and No-SQL persistence approaches.
  • Strong understanding of system integration, debugging, and performance optimization.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Build and integrate AI-powered agents, workflows, and automation systems using modern GenAI frameworks and APIs.
  • Develop intelligent tools that improve engineering productivity, defect detection, and operational efficiency.
  • Partner with engineering, product, and platform teams to scale GenAI adoption across the organization.
  • Design, develop, and maintain high-scale backend services, REST APIs, and automation pipelines.
  • Build scripts, tools, and services that improve engineering efficiency and reduce manual effort.
  • Ensure backend systems meet availability, scalability, performance, and security requirements.
  • Integrate telemetry, monitoring, and CI/CD best practices into backend services.
  • Build and maintain end-to-end automation frameworks for backend, web, and native mobile platforms.
  • Write and automate test plans, test cases, and regression suites for large-scale Warehouse Management/eCommerce applications.
  • Execute functional, integration, regression, and performance testing across platforms.
  • Troubleshoot automation failures and collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues.
  • Improve and optimize the software development lifecycle through automation and tooling.
  • Track program metrics, report progress, and ensure adherence to milestones and quality standards.
  • Perform root-cause analysis, defect management, and regression testing.
  • Drive continuous improvement across engineering processes, tools, and automation pipelines.

Role Summary: As a Software Engineer III at Walmart, you will design, build, and scale high-impact systems across backend services, automation frameworks, and GenAI-powered engineering tools. You will work across complex distributed systems, native mobile and web automation, and AI-driven workflows that accelerate engineering productivity across Walmart’s global Supply Chain ecosystems. This role is ideal for engineers who thrive in fast-paced, cross-functional environments and enjoy solving deep technical problems with high ownership.

What You’ll Do:
GenAI Engineering
  • Build and integrate AI-powered agents, workflows, and automation systems using modern GenAI frameworks and APIs.
  • Develop intelligent tools that improve engineering productivity, defect detection, and operational efficiency.
  • Partner with engineering, product, and platform teams to scale GenAI adoption across the organization.
Backend Engineering & API Development
  • Design, develop, and maintain high-scale backend services, REST APIs, and automation pipelines.
  • Build scripts, tools, and services that improve engineering efficiency and reduce manual effort.
  • Ensure backend systems meet availability, scalability, performance, and security requirements.
  • Integrate telemetry, monitoring, and CI/CD best practices into backend services.
Quality Engineering & Automation
  • Build and maintain end-to-end automation frameworks for backend, web, and native mobile platforms.
  • Write and automate test plans, test cases, and regression suites for large-scale Warehouse Management/eCommerce applications.

  • Program Monitoring & Quality Governance
  • Track program metrics, report progress, and ensure adherence to milestones and quality standards.
  • Perform root-cause analysis, defect management, and regression testing.
  • Drive continuous improvement across engineering processes, tools, and automation pipelines.
DevOps & Operational Excellence
  • Monitor application performance, logs, telemetry, and system health.
  • Perform maintenance, debugging, and re-engineering activities across backend and QE systems.
  • Evaluate change requests and ensure compliance with security, quality, and operational standards.
What You’ll Bring
  • 5+ years of experience in Full stack engineering, automation, or quality engineering.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or related field.
  • Strong experience with Java and Python, or similar languages.
  • Hands-on experience with REST/GraphQL APIs, distributed systems, and backend automation with RestAssured.
  • Experience with mobile/web automation frameworks (Appium, XCUI Test, Selenium, Playwright).
  • Strong working knowledge of SQL and No-SQL persistence approaches

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of quality engineering principles, test strategy, and defect management.

The annual salary range for this position is $117,000.00 - $234,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :

Minimum Qualifications
  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 2 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
