Qualifications

• Experience designing, developing, and modifying software application, components, and prototypes.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor software developers and manage a small team.

Position Overview

Senior Software Engineer / Lead Developer that will envision product development and oversight of simulation projects through completion; analyze, design, and develop software enhancements and new modules; guide the development of a project from initial design through testing while providing strategic management direction. Provide technical leadership and guidance to less experienced staff.

Responsibilities

• Designs and develops software applications, components, and system enhancements.
• Lead daily development meetings and monitor progress against established project tasks and schedules.
• Analyze and decompose software requirements into actionable development tasks and maintain the project backlog.
• Lead and conduct software peer reviews to ensure adherence to established coding, design, and implementation standards.
• Performs coding, debugging, testing and troubleshooting throughout the application development process.
• May provide consultation on complex projects. Supports development of project proposals.
• Support technical planning, estimation, and development of project proposals.

Required Experience/Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or other relevant degree.
• Minimum 10 years of experience as software developer.
• Experience designing and coding software applications using the Unity and/or Unreal Engine.
• Ability to independently plan, prioritize, and track software development activities to support project objectives and schedules.
• Experience designing, developing, and modifying software application, components, and prototypes.
• Research product development options and provides analysis for product direction.
• Consults with internal functional areas to identify customer needs and include into project objectives. Provides support regarding product development to internal departments.
• Manages and directs up to four to five software developers. Supports evaluation of software engineers’ performance, sets project expectations and goals for team members, and mentors/trains staff.
• Ability to create and maintain software design and project documentation.

Preferred Experience/Qualifications

• Experience supporting military, government, or technical training programs.
• Extensive experience developing software applications using C#.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience developing applications using a 3D game engine such as Unity or Unreal Engine.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent understanding of text-based structured data such as JSON and XML
• Strong background in Modeling and Simulation application development background
• Extensive experience with bug tracking and task management applications such as Jira or Microsoft Azure DevOps
• Expert understanding and application of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes.
