Job summary

Parallel Systems in California is seeking a Software Engineer II to design, develop, and maintain critical test software and infrastructure for our autonomous rail vehicle program. You will work across on-vehicle software, cloud services, and hardware-in-the-loop simulations to ensure safety, reliability, and compliance.

You will mentor engineers, help shape testing strategy, and drive pragmatic solutions with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of software development with scripting and systems programming
• Experience with HITL and SITL testing
• Proficiency with Linux and the software test/build/deploy lifecycle
• Proven ability to lead technical design and mentor engineers

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain test frameworks for on-vehicle software as well as cloud-based services
• Design, develop, and maintain hardware test stands for the vehicle subsystems
• Maintain continuous integration (CI) pipeline, with an emphasis on reliability, speed, and cost effectiveness
• Partner with hardware and software teams to develop useful internal software tooling
• Contribute to regulatory documentation, including software traceability and test protocols
• When appropriate, provide project leadership and ensure milestones are defined and achieved

Software Engineer II – Test/Internal Tooling

Parallel Systems is seeking a Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain critical test software/infrastructure for an autonomous rail vehicle. In this role, you will work with systems required to ensure that our autonomous rail vehicles satisfy all regulatory, technical, and safety requirements.

This position requiresstrong software development skills as well asdeepexpertisein testing both cloud-based software andphysical hardware systems.Moreover, candidates will need to be able to guide overall testing strategy, mentor engineers, and collaborate across product,software, hardware, and infrastructure/ITteams to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.

What Success Looks Like

• After 30 Days: You'vedeveloped aworkingunderstanding of our testinginfrastructureand are activelyassistingin thebring-up of new test systems.
• After 60 Days: You’vedevelopeda deep understandingof our testing infrastructure.You areassistingin significant overhauls and expansions to our testing capabilities, as well asactivelydriving discussions around the testing team’s overall strategy and priorities.
• After 90 Days: You’vedelivered major testing featuresand are proactively ensuring the testing team’s roadmap is aligned with the company’s future milestones.

Basic Requirements

• 3+ years of software development skills and professional experience with both scripting (Python, JS, etc.) and systems (C++/Rust) programming languages
• Professional experience, or a high interest, in working on software test infrastructure with the ability to reason about correctness, performance, and system design
• Experience withbothhardware-in-the-loop (HITL)testingandsoftware-in-the-loop (SITL)simulations
• Working proficiency with Linux and the software test/build/deploy lifecycle
• Demonstrated success in leading technical design, setting direction, and mentoring other engineers

Preferred Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience building test software and/or internal tooling, with an emphasis on hard tech products in addition to conventional cloud software
• Experience in safety-critical domains such as autonomous vehicles, industrial control, or aerospace
• Knowledge of rail control systems (strong plus)
• Ability to work cross-functionally and balance technical depth with product impact
• Experience with polyglot codebases

Final compensation may vary and will be determined during the interview process. The target hiring range for this position is listed below.

Target Salary Range:: $140,000 USD - $164,000 USD
