Job summary

RTX, a world-leading aerospace and defense company, is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join the TCMA team in Huntsville, AL. The role focuses on designing and implementing Agile software engineering processes for avionics software, with opportunities to work on software for fixed-wing and rotary-wing platforms.

The candidate will design, implement, and test software in C++ and Python within an Agile framework, collaborating with cross-functional teams and mentors.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field.
  • Experience in software architecture, design and development using languages such as C, C++, Java, Ada and Python.
  • Experience in an Agile environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and evaluate software in C++ and Python within the Agile framework.
  • Conduct multidisciplinary research and collaborate with other engineers in planning, design, and development of military technology.
  • Work closely with cross-functional research teams to evaluate the effectiveness of early software prototypes.

  • Implement requirements, detailed design, software, integration, and verification per software processes.
  • Meet program schedules and collaborate with teammates to make strong decisions.

The Tactical, Communications, and Maintenance Applications (TCMA) team based in Huntsville, Alabama has new opportunities for individuals who want to grow their technical expertise on complex programs and be a part of an innovative and fast‑paced avionics business area. Teams are composed of cross‑functional engineers working in an AGILE environment (approximately 6-10 people) focused on the design and development of software‑only products. Our team focuses on creating avionics solutions for both fixed‑wing and rotary‑wing aircraft, including the integration of various radios and surveillance equipment for domestic and international military customers.

We are looking for an experienced Engineer, disciplined in Software Engineering to join our TCMA team in Huntsville, Alabama. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing Agile software engineering processes and activities.

Role is preferred to be onsite in Huntsville, AL but open to onsite in Cedar Rapids, IA as well.

What You Will Do:
  • Design, implement, and evaluate software in C++ and Python within the Agile framework.

  • Independently perform multiple tasks given support from a mentor.
  • Implement requirements, detailed design, implementing software, integration, and verification in accordance with software development processes.
  • Accomplish tasks based on program schedule, collaborate with teammates to make the best decisions
  • Enjoy learning new technologies, be self‑motivated and contribute to a positive work environment.
  • 5% travel as needed.
Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field.
  • Experience in software architecture, design and development using languages such as C, C++, Java, Ada and Python.
  • Experience in an Agile.

Onsite

Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
