Job summary

Press Ganey Associates LLC is seeking a backend software engineer to design and implement features in Elixir/Phoenix or Python/Flask. You will work with PostgreSQL databases and REST APIs, contributing to AI-assisted development tools and end-to-end feature ownership.

You will participate in Agile processes, improve testing coverage, and help shape backend architecture while collaborating with high-performing teams. A BS in CS or related field and backend experience are required.

Responsibilities

• Develop Software Applications: gathers feature requirements, participates in technical discussions to understand scope and design intent, implements features in Elixir/Phoenix or Python/Flask, leverages AI tools to accelerate implementation, improves testing coverage, refactors code for performance, clarity, and testability, produces supporting documentation and design artifacts, contributes to database schema design (PostgreSQL) and API development, owns features end‑to‑end through testing, deployment, and post‑release support, writes unit, integration, and system‑level tests, debug uses modern observability tools and AI‑assisted troubleshooting, prepares production release plans, participates in code reviews, collaborates on delivery timelines.
• Support Software Applications: troubleshoots and resolves issues from observability systems, user reports, or automated monitoring, contributes to installation, deployment, and developer documentation, diagnoses and resolves backend service issues, participates in full software lifecycle from ideation to long‑term maintenance and support, works within an Agile development process focused on iterative value delivery.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in Elixir/Phoenix and/or Python/Flask
• Working knowledge of relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL
• Experience with AI‑assisted development tools and workflows
• Experience building and consuming REST APIs
• Familiarity with data modeling concepts and backend systems design
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS) and containerized applications
• Debug and troubleshoot backend performance issues using modern observability tools
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure‑as‑code concepts (Terraform, Kubernetes)
• Ability to work collaboratively in high‑performing engineering teams
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field (or equivalent experience)
• Professional experience in backend software development
• Demonstrated ability to deliver features with quality and reliability under senior guidance
• Enthusiasm for learning, self‑improvement, and staying current with emerging tools and technologies
• Drive toward delivery of quality products and commitment to continuous improvement

Expected base salary for this position ranges from $65,000 to $85,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. In addition to base salary and a competitive benefits package, successful candidates may be eligible to receive a discretionary bonus or commission tied to achieved results.
