Job summary

Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration in Colorado Springs is seeking a Software Engineer II to design, implement, and maintain scalable DevOps pipelines for the C2BMC program. You will develop applications in Python and Java, automate using Bash/PowerShell, and document architectures and tooling to support enterprise-scale networks.

The role requires a DoD Secret clearance, DoD 8140 IAT II certification, and 10% travel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, with 2 years of experience; or a Master’s degree with 0 years; or 6 years of relevant work experience as alternative.
  • DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (e.g., Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA) at the time of application and maintain it throughout contract.
  • Active in-scope DoD‑issued Secret security clearance at the time of application
  • Willingness to travel 10% of the time
  • Effective communicator with writing and presentation skills, proficient with PowerPoint and Visio
  • Experience coding in Python and Java, plus scripting in Bash and PowerShell
  • Understanding of SDLC and Agile methodologies
  • Ability to script and test automation for software tools
  • Understanding of object-oriented programming, API integration (REST), and Git

Responsibilities

Position Overview

Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration offers an excellent opportunity for a Software Engineer II (26-290 & 26-291) to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. Based in Colorado Springs, CO, this role is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels.

This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a key component of the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, collectively monitor the battle, and dynamically control networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals. C2BMC supports layered missile defense capabilities that enable an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It serves as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations, both globally and regionally, to improve performance. C2BMC is essential for all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of missile defense systems.

Essential Functions
  • Will be responsible for developing and maintaining scalable DevOps solutions and CI/CD pipelines to enable efficient software delivery
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve automation, reliability, and system performance
  • Design, build, implement, and maintain a CI/CD pipeline using tools such as GitLab and Jenkins
  • Develop and maintain complex software applications using languages such as Python, Java, Bash, and PowerShell
  • Implement solutions for an enterprise-scale network, including building Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Software-defined Networking (SDN) to optimize network management
  • Develop and maintain documentation for all software, including CI/CD pipelines, architecture, configuration, and tooling guides
  • Develop and enhance automation scripts and services using Python or Java to improve DevOps workflows
  • May be required to support critical activities outside standard business hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed
  • Any other required tasks by the program
Basic Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, along with 2 years of experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field with 0 years of relevant work experience; or 6 years of relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree
  • Applicants must have a current, active DoD 8140 certification at IAT LevelII or higher (such as Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA, etc.) at the time of application, which is required to start. The candidate is responsible for maintaining their DoD 8140 certification throughout the entire contract period
  • Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD‑issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
  • Willingness to travel 10% of the time for business needs
  • Must be an effective communicator with excellent writing and presentation skills, proficient with Microsoft PowerPoint and Visio drawing tools
  • Must be capable of collaborating effectively with a team of highly motivated engineers and working independently, when necessary, on large field projects
  • Experience coding in various programming languages, including Python and Java, as well as scripting languages such as Bash and PowerShell
  • Understanding of object-oriented programming principles, API integration (particularly REST APIs), and Git version control
  • Ability to script and test automation for software tools
  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies
Preferred Qualifications
  • Applicants with a current, active in-scope DoD‑issued Top Secret security clearance at the time of application
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker) and basic orchestration concepts

Salary Range

Primary Level Salary Range: $83,400.00 - $125,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off for vacation and/or personal business.
