Job summary

Trellis Company is hiring a Software Engineer II to join the Distributed Applications team in Round Rock, TX. You will develop and maintain web, mobile, AIML and legacy applications, collaborating with solution architects and business partners to analyze requirements, design features, implement code, and deliver reliable software in production.

Location:

The position is hybrid, two days weekly required in office. Office location is Round Rock, Texas.

JOB SUMMARY

Software Engineer II is a member of the Distributed Applications team with primary responsibility to work on development and maintenance of web, mobile, AIML and legacy applications. Software Engineer II uses technologies and application development tools to develop, test, implement, and maintain in-house applications. This role works with Solution Architects and internal business partners to analyze business requirements, participate in design sessions and develop application features, perform quality reviews of project deliverables and maintenance work that is being implemented. The Software Engineer II will also assist with researching problems and requests as well as debug, and correct production problems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The position incumbent is expected to perform the following essential duties and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation.

  • Participate in the design, implementation, and testing of features for various products.
  • Work in a team-oriented environment with flexibility to work independently.
  • Consult with application development team on software products and development methodologies.
  • Assist with software solutions by studying information needs, conferring with users, and studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes.
  • Provides information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing development and service issues.
  • Develop test scripts for Quality Assurance of the software product using appropriate tools and automate tests execution.
  • Actively participate in peer code reviews, application standards and application performance reviews to improve the quality of software products. Assist the application design team with accomplishing tasks related to the development of new software to streamline business processes.
  • Assist with new and alternate solutions to improve existing processes and procedures.
  • Provide clear instructions explaining how the software works to the customer and be available to answer any questions that may arise.
  • Conduct research on new products and tools that may assist customers’ business needs.
  • Test software applications for efficiency and identify any bugs and propose fixes.
  • Efficiently identify and resolve issues that arise during the design, testing and maintenance processes using problem-solving skills.
  • Participate in team meetings, requirements analysis, design meetings, and code reviews.
  • Participate in training and other learning opportunities to ensure compliance and expand knowledge of the company, position, and process.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Working experience and understanding of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AIML) technologies – Python and/or Java, exploratorydata analysis, preprocessing data for ML model development.
  • Experience in development and implementation of AML algorithms, models using LLMs and ML services to create business applications.
  • Developing workflows and automations using AI agents in Contact Center Operations, Finance, HR, and Customer Service segments.
  • AI/ML model training, model validation, performance tuning, and deployment in production.
  • Strong working experience in one or more distributed web app technologies – Java, Angular Framework, Node JS, JavaScript, Bootstrap, React JS, SQL,Spring Boot, Spring Framework, Spring Data JPA, Spring Security, oAuth, Restful Webservices, Microservices, Hibernate, Spring integration.
  • Ability to work with CI/CD tools – Atlassian tools, Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Maven, Git, SVN, Nexus etc. and IDEs – VS Code, Spring Tool Suite, Eclipse, IntelliJ.
  • Working knowledge of deploying apps to App servers – Oracle WebLogic, Tomcat etc. and connecting to data bases- SQL Server, DB2, mySQL etc.
  • Understand Object-Oriented Design, Unified Modeling Language (UML) Notation, Relational and Non-Relational Standard Query Language (NoSQL) databases.
  • Demonstrated experience in requirements analysis, software design, applications development, software testing and implementation in production.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, or related field. Experience beyond the minimum work experience requirement can be substituted for college hours on a year-for-year basis.

Experience

Required:

  • Three (3) years of application software development experience from a combination of web technologies, AIML technologies, cloud applications and software tools.
  • Two (2) years of experience in application building, deployment, debugging and running applications on app/web servers as well as cloud platforms.
  • One (1) year of experience in version control systems, agile methodologies, SDLC, build tools, and issue/bug tracking tools

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of Cloud with Azure, AWS, GCP or equivalent.
  • Experience of workflow automations using AI Agents and deployment.
  • Data Transformation experience using ETL tools.
  • Knowledge of COBOL, CICS on zOS.
  • Experience with legacy app (Cobol) conversion to distributed apps.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Work may be conducted remotely, hybrid or in an office with a surrounding small cubicle environment.
  • Participates in rotating on-call support for web and mobile business applications.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
  • Base Salary: $64,000.00 - $87,000.00 per year (commensurate with experience)
  • Corporate Annual Incentive: This position is eligible for a corporate annual incentive, subject to the discretion and approval of the Board of Directors and not guaranteed.
  • Paid Holidays: 11 holidays + 1 floating holiday per year
