Job summary

CarMax is seeking a Cloud Engineer II to join our CAF Technology team. You will help build and operate a scalable cloud platform, partnering with engineers to deliver secure, compliant, and efficient services for financing and customer experiences.

You’ll work in a hybrid setup, collaborating across teams to modernize legacy systems, implement IaC, and deploy containerized solutions while emphasizing availability and data privacy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technology field, or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of relevant work experience.
  • 2+ years experience with .NET and C#.
  • 2+ years building infrastructure within a cloud platform (Azure preferred; AWS or Google Cloud considered).
  • Demonstrable experience defining infrastructure as code - Bicep preferred; Terraform or CloudFormation experience is transferable.
  • Demonstrable experience with a range of cloud capabilities including compute, storage, key & secret management, virtual networking, identity and access management, and automated deployments.
  • Demonstrable experience creating and managing CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar.
  • Working knowledge of containers and Linux fundamentals - Dockerfiles, image registries, and how images are built, scanned, promoted, and debugged at runtime.
  • Exposure to event-driven architecture (Service Bus or equivalent) and NoSQL data stores such as Cosmos DB is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail, along with problem investigation and diagnostic skills.
  • Passion for eliminating repetitive manual processes through automation.

Purpose of the Role

Credit and Originations is a strategic and critical growth area for CarMax and CarMax Auto Finance (CAF), enabling consumers to easily apply for financing and receive funding offers that drive efficient vehicle acquisition while managing organizational financial risk.

As an Cloud Engineer II within CAF Technology, you will be part of a team of Engineers responsible for interfacing consumer credit application data with internal and external systems – delivering value and efficient solutions that adhere to the highest standards of security and compliance.

You will be results-oriented, data-driven, and comfortable contributing ideas and influencing outcomes through sound engineering judgment rather than formal authority. You'll take ownership of your piece of the technology roadmap, partnering with teammates on short-term delivery and longer-term platform decisions that shape CarMax's technology journey. You should be passionate about availability, security, and data privacy, and energized by building a robust, well-engineered technology environment.

You'll contribute to a cross-functional effort to modernize legacy systems, leverage AI technologies, and build scalable platforms that streamline operations and enhance the associate and customer experience.

Qualifications and Requirements

Work Location and Arrangement

This role will be based out of the CarMax Corp Office, Richmond VA or CarMax Auto Finance office, Kennesaw GA and have a Hybrid work arrangement.

  • Associatesbased in Richmond Virginiaor Kennesaw Georgia workonsite4 days per week.

The annual salary for this position is:

$88,800.00 - $133,200.00

May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Benefits

Except as otherwise required by state law, CarMax Associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time.

Associates that are considered full-time hourly or commission/incentive eligible:

  • To earn up to 48 hours of sick time per year accrued on a per pay period basis and between 80 hours and 200 hours per year of vacation time after a 90 day waiting period depending on years of continuous service with the Company.
  • For 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday. If such an Associate does work on a scheduled holiday due to business need, they are eligible for Holiday Premium Pay.

Associates considered full-time salaried are entitled to paid time away with no specified limit as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc. subject to manager approval.
